There is a craigslist ad for a '55 Kenmore washer and a Tappan stove in the Houston area. I e-mailed the seller to see what he meant by "needs minor work" and he replied that there was a short in the power cord. If he held the cord in a certain position, it worked fine. He took the cord off to replace and never got back to it. I sent another e-mail to feel him out about the price he is hoping to get, waiting for a reply.

Can anyone tell me what a fair price to offer would be? I might try to get this, but if anyone else wants it, go for it - I've got enough projects to do around here!

Confused...

Ok Mom & Dad had a set like this white background, gold letters, neighbors had a set black/dark grey background gold letters, which I think denoted different model years but I have not seen one like this with white background gold letters and a black/dark grey frog eye? Does this denote another model year?

The dial Changes!

The background color of the dial is different colors on other years.Strange but my 56 Desoto had gold numbers white background,The 55 had gold numbers black background,Kenmore same color scheme.57 pinkish numbers on some models, that used the frog-eye style.I think that style on the lower end models was dropped in 60 or early 61. Also the plastic plate in the front changed with models, the fancy ones had anodized gold rim on them. Thanks Bobby

That's a very nice looking washer.  One of my mom's friends had the matching dryer.
