I really can't tell you what it is about having an opportunity to grab / save something and going to grab / save it, yet at the same time NOT having enough space for the new arrivals.   It is truly a conundrum.   Either that or I really need to tell the doctor to change my meds because they are definitely NOT working!   *LOL*

Anyway.... A friend (Steven / wigwag) down near San Diego is going through a lot of big changes in his life right now and he needed to eliminate his collection.   I drove down Saturday morning and picked everything up.

As I have a small truck I knew there was no way to fit everything, so I rented a trailer so I could get all this done in one shot.  My first time towing anything with this truck and it did pretty good!  (Side note, it's a good thing too because with two recent problems at two local oil refineries, we now have a gas shortage here is California and gas prices shot up $0.60 a gallon by friday afternoon!!!!!)

So here is the truck and trailer loaded and ready for the hour and a half trip back home.

Here are the "new additions"

First up a matched 1970 Kenmore 800 washer and electric dryer.  These are beautiful!   I discovered the washer works great as I ran two loads of laundry through it this afternoon.

Next a really nice Whirlpool "Surpreme 80" set.   The dryer is gas.   I'm not sure of the year, early 70's?

Washer Model: LXA7800A3  Serial: J30454416

Dryer Model: LX17801A2  Serial: M30202723

This set is very nice, but unfortunately needs to go as I don't have room for everything.

Is anyone interested in this WP set?   Please message me or send an e-mail.

Next up this early 80's Electronic Kenmore pair.    Very nice also and the washer works great, I did two loads of laundry in this one today too!

These are not available as they will be traveling a couple thousand miles East bound.

Beautiful sets amongst those other great finds you have there. Have fun with those Kenmores, and I hope someone here snatches up the Whirlpools.

Have a good one,

Next a 1983 Lady Kenmore washer that has "come home" only to be sent away again... haha.   This one started out here a couple years ago, before going to Steven and now coming back.   This one will also be accompanying the electronic set on their East bound journey.

And surprise, surprise, a PINK 1958 Frigidaire Filtrator dryer!   Woo hoo!

For me this would be a keeper if I had the matching washer, however I don't so this one is available too!   FYI... the light on this dryer works, but little else does.   When I turned the timer, nothing happens.   No buzzing, no humming, the only thing is the control panel light dimmed as, I assume, the heater turned on and off.   So light, yes.   Heating element, I assume yes.   Motor and tumbling, no.

Again, send me a message or an e-mail if you are interested in this one.

I am glad you were able to save these appliances from the crusher, I have also been involved with doing this for several friends over the years. The Pink Filterator may just have a bad door switch or the belt safety switch may have tripped due to a belt problem.

Kevin the WP DW doesn't look too bad and it is one of the best cleaning DWs ever made, if it does end up getting parted out save me the timer and the PB program switch Thanks John.

The Harriet Tubman of appliances! Sorry to hear wigwag is clearing out, hopefully he was able to keep a couple of specimens to enjoy. He had some very nice machines - they look very clean.

That green Whirlpool set originally came from Omaha a few years ago, found on Craigslist. They are handsome machines - haven't seen any Whirlpools from that vintage or older since.

>> Gee Patrick, are you saying my washer area wasn't like a "Candyland" before when you came down for the wash-in???   LOL

But a Candyland now?   No, not really.   Actually it looks like some "hoarder" broke in and brought all their stuff with them!!    Everything is buried 3 layers deep.   So.... "these things (and more) gotta go"!

>> John... finally going green?   Oh, I've BEEN green for a while now, I'm just a lot MORE green now!   LOL   Thanks for the tips on the Filtrator, I'll pass them along.   Actually I was and still am tempted to KEEP this dryer just because it's SO COOL, however if I had to choose one or the other, I would prefer to have a washer over a dryer.   (Now watch, as soon as the dryer goes away a matching pink washer will fall into my lap.   That would be just my luck!  LOL

>> Greg... Omaha huh?   Wow that's cool.   This looks like a really nice set.   I'm going to hook them both up and run some laundry through them over the next week or three.   As for him keeping a set, yes he now has my WP "Brady Bunch" set as he's calling them.   You remember, the ones with the "wood paneling".

Again this (1973) WP set is available "to a good home" as they say.   Oh and did I mention they are FREE?   Yup, free, free, free!

Kenmore electronic washer pics

Hello RevvinKevin,

Really nice machines there.

I was wondering about the Kenmore Electronic washer you posted and if you could do me a BIG favor
before you ship them back East?

Can you take a high resolution pic of the blue logo on the front panel for me ( I think it says Solid State) and a closeup pic
of the Start button??( I want to see if the start button has a 'picture frame' bezel around it)

I have 2 1978 Lady Kenmore electronic washers -belt drives that are on the final legs of a total restoration ( one was a parts unit that was vandalised
for the aluminum and copper wire bits-yep no harnesses and one motor with transmission sold off by repair shop) model # of one is 110.72894830.
both were resuced from a Repair shop that needed the space.

Both of them are missing the harnesses with the long plastic Edge connector that slots over the circuit board side.
I'm assuming that the circuit boards would be different between the 1st and 2nd generation models but
I'm hoping that the Edge connector manufacturer would be the same so if I can get a closeup pic of the
Edge connector on your model to get the Manufacturer and the numbers on the connector please
so that i can source it online??? Maybe it's Molex? I don't know.

Once I can get those pics/info I can then finally start the hard part of the restoration which is to toubleshoot the
electronic issues that got them into the 'repair shop' in the first place.

regards
David

First, Mister Andrew, lol, I do have a few WPs. They are relegated to a back room though... Actually an LA7680XM or XP is on my 'soon list' of machines to revive. After seeing all those ultra-cool Canadian Kenmores in Darren K's post, I decided it was time for some "different sameness" to be had in my own laundry at home.

As to Charlotte being seen more clearly than the blinding light from Signal Hill --- please, all you're going to see of CLT soon is an indentation on the map from GoogleEarth where everything has sunk into the ground. At least around the storage area. Since that is about 15 miles from my house, you'll see the hole, and some shining restored Kenmores from my garage looking into the hole from the outside edges saying to themselves "Oh dear, is that Ethel in there?!".

Dan - The WP set is a Supreme 80 set from 1973 (LXA7800). I'd say a bit fancier than MOL, but not TOL either. Kevin has a nibble on this set that might send them to a really great home in the central time zone if we can work out the logistics. Will have to use my east-bound trucking wizardry so we're working on it.

As to the Electronic Lady Ks - Kevin and I have started calling these the E-KMs, and I love that name, its already stuck. Usually machines that I nick-name become part of the cherished and rotated machines in my laundry "studio". I am really looking forward to having this set. I didn't pay them much attention when they were new - too 'different' from what I liked. What I remember most about them is how funny they looked on the floor without knobs. Since then I have become very curious about them. These are 1980 models - I don't think the dryer varied much from 1980/1981/and 1982 models, but the washer is the only Lady K electronic NOT to have the triple dispenser, and I kinda like it that way. I have heard that the solenoids in the bleach/softener/detergent systems can be rough on the electronic board and have been advised to get new ones. Appparently 'noisy' solenoids don't harm electromechanical machines, but their electronic "feedback" has taken out many a board. INTERESTING! Don't want a 32 year old board to go out.

I remember very clearly when these were acquired by Stephen in 2010 - I really liked them then, and jumped at the chance to have them now.

The washer has the wrong pump installed - it will be intersting to see if this was just an over-sight mistake on someone's part or if there is something wrong with the lint filter. Fun awaits ahead it would seem.

Gordon

Kenny -

This Lady K is the 'regular' version - the one with the full white tub and the porcelain lid and top. It is two years older than the same-day siblings from late 1986.

Kevin was brilliant enough to take a picture of the model tag without me asking --- so I noticed the manufacture date straight away.

Good question!

Oh, yes, I think two WPs came here? The first one was "taken" by the presumed scrappers back in 2009 as I had it stored in my trailer. The other is tucked in the Whirlpool room, wooden lid handle and all!

That would be the small, dark, padded room in the basement where all the Whirlpools have their hoses and power cords held behind their backs with little appliance straight jackets and a big 'QUARANTINE' sign on the door. All due to them being slightly 'off' from their proper Kenmore cousins... ROFLMAO!

Electronic LKM BD washer or E-KM

combo52's profile picture

Gordon these earlier E-KM washers without the later style interrogated triple dispenser still have three solenoids controlled by the board directly by the triacs on the board, one for bleach, one for fabric softener and one for the detergent dumper. While both systems worked well the triple dispenser was a big improvement because it diluted the detergent and FS and flushed itself out, having a lot of experience with both systems I would take the later system any day.

John,

Yes, I have several machines of both configurations. Personal preference wins out here and neither of us are wrong, but I would take the non-triple disp. machine any day. I wanted this particular model because it has the separate dispensers. I'd be even happier if they didn't have any dispener solenoids, but I realize this is for mid-line fare.

The triple dispenser honestly is not a favorite of mine. I know they're fun, and certainly quite unique to vintage machines and also very effective, but my experience with them recently hasn't been fun. In three machines (a 1972 Lady K, a 1985 Lady K, and that white 1986 Lady K from Andy), none of the systems worked properly. One needed the flow control valve that mounts to the transmission brace. One needed the whole reservoir, and one needs a solenoid AND the the flow valve. One I had to clean with a roto-rooter type brush to get all the mineral build-up out of the hoses leading to the softener section. I have a decent stache of parts, but we are looking at $$$ here. Other than dried out plungers (or clogged ones) in the electric dispenser version, I haven't had nearly the problem with these. Of course I may have just jinxed that now!

I think I worded my comment above poorly, but its the 1980 machine that I have been warned about the solenoids going bad - not in ones with the triple disp, however maybe they all do...

In whatever configuration, I intend to have these machines up and running properly. I will say that as I see it, they fit the old philosophy that people used to have about high-end machines - "just more to break".

Electronic LKM BD washer or E-KM

combo52's profile picture

I my experience the early style dispensers were much likely to blow out the microcomputer boards, what often happened was the FS plunger would get stuck in the gunky FS in the bottom of the reservoir and break off the steel solenoid plunger, once this happens the solenoid will immediately overheat, short and fry the board. WP had so much trouble with this happening that their 2nd generation E controlled washers had NO electric dispensers, KM models took the route of going to the better and more reliable Triple dispenser system.

Gordon while you may have seen more [ 3 ] triple dispenser KM washers with problems it really is not statistically accurate to conclude that they are more troublesome or even more expensive to repair.

Is there a cat about to hunch up and hiss in the post above?

kenmoreguy64's profile picture
John,

GO BACK AND RE-READ WHAT I SAID.

Forgeting for a moment what is statistically accurate or not, and better yet, drop the statistics altogether, I NEVER ONCE said anything about one system being more reliable than another, not once, nor did I draw any conclusions that would apply to anyone other than myself.

What I did say however, is that 1) I prefer the machines without the triple disp, 2) that I would rather there be no electric dispensers, and 3) that the triple dispenser is not a favorite of mine. I stand by those statements - they are a matter of personal preference.

If I had said, or even intimated, anything about the triple being less reliable than the separate electric dispensers, I would have said something like the following: "I think the triple dispenser is less reliable than the other type" and nothing less direct than that.

Please don't put words in my mouth (or in this case on the screen) for the sake of correcting someone.

You are correct Gordon I did read between the lines a little to much and apologize putting words in your mouth.

I did however have an appliance repair friend read all your posts and he came away with much the same conclusions that I did,

so I will not go back over them.

The TDS certainly had some problems, with most coming from using recirculated water being used to flush the dispensers.

Because these machines were popular during the era that people were switching to non-phosphated detergents coupled with

hard water and under use of detergents in general they could easily turn into a real mess.

The best dispensing system ever was certainly the TDS that used fresh water diluting & flushing as introduced on the KM DD washers. It is interesting that all washers today that have a TDS use fresh water.

That I have made Rosalie's a powder detergent and not a liquid!( which was intentional from the begining!) They all say the same thing, "how on earth do you put it in the machine dispenser"?!!

I tell them just like a liquid! They balk-- always! I tell them you mean you didn't know your dispenser uses water to get the charge into the drum??

uh-duh

Unbelieveable!

Hey Gordon:

You're the one having the hissy fit! And you're the one who has been correcting people willy-nilly, lately--Glenn in all caps, no less, and a thread in the wrong place, when you announced your birthday in the wrong forum. How clever, so now you collect the strokes without ever having to give any in the green thread--just to mention a few of your many "corrections" among recent ones.

You have called people out for writing disrespectfully to another member; now you've done the same yourself to John who, as far as I've seen, and as you well know, doesn't even know how to hiss. This is no way for good friends to be addressing each other. I'm surprised at you.

Cease! ~ or I'll call the Imperial Police LOL.

I second that question.

And I third that question.

I sent him a message suggesting he ask the "Imperial Police" remove his post as it was COMPLETELY uncalled for and inappropriate... especially since not another word had been posted for the last TEN DAYS.

The best thing to do...

Is just let this thread go bye. I feel for you, Kevin. I had my thread where I introduced my coppertone Lady K's to my other family and it devolved into an argument over some bs which I don't even remember anymore.

Guys and gals, let's adopt a new rule. When someone posts a new thread introducing a new find they brought home and want to happily share it(them) with the rest of us, DON'T PISS IN HIS/HER'S CORNFLAKES. If you would like to congratulate or complement, great. If you have a neat story or memory to share, awesome! Helpful suggestions are welcome. BUT if you feel the urge to knock the new find, start saying something controversial or just ruin the mood then either use the email system or start a different thread later! Don't be an ass. I love each and every one of you as a second family. Really! I expect better from us all (myself included!).

I'm sure I've probably torqued off someone or two. I'm sorry but I felt it needed to be said! I really do care for you all! Take this as I meant it. Please...

Sorry for my part, if any, Kevin. Thank you for sharing!
