Thought I'd pop this from the Electricity Council on here as was in a pile of stuff that my parents have made me take away with me. Forgot I had them. Some interesting washing machines particularly the electronic Creda washing machine on page 6. Anyone out there got one?

Cheers
Stephen

page 5 Does anyone know if the Bendix is a washer dryer and if so what the number is? One of my neighbours had one of these and it had a vent hose for the drying which I thought was unusual!

WHOA!

Hi Stephen.

First off - a FANTASTIC brochure you have got there, with some absolute classics contained within. Many many thanks for posting.

Second thing - and me being very cheeky here, but is it possible to reload the pages bigger, so they fill the width of the screen?
As I mention above , there are some absoluete gems of machines contained within your brochure and it would be excellent to be able to see them in greater detail.

You mention the Creda on page 6 - that is the model 12000 Microelectronic 1000 - a VERY rare machine which people hardly ever saw when they were new and no one has seen for donkeys years. I only ever saw one of these machines and that was when I was about 5 or six years old.

The Servis machines contained in this brochure MIGHT be the holy grail series of final slimlines, of which no one has any official images and the Creda machines are in exactly the same boat!

I have never resized manually any photo I have ever posted to Discuss o Mat, as I have found that the site autoshrinks to an acceptable size to fit the screen. Have never tried to upload billboard size mind you - I think that might cause a wobbler to be thrown:-)
Thing is that your brochure deserves HUGE!

Please consider reposting in a bigger size, so as to be able to clearly make out the manufacturer name underneath each photo of the machine - that should be an indicator as to when an acceptable size has been reached.
If I sound like I am having a go, believe me I am not - its just that you have an absolute classic brochure containing many rather obscure models that many, myself included, either have never seen before or not seen in detail for decades.
You could potentially solve many a mystery with your brochure and I have everything crossed that you are able to repost them.

Reuploading the photos or not, many thanks for posting the pages - classic machines, sold through the branches of one of my favourite shops - the old Electricity Board Shop!

Paul
p.s NORWEB in my case:-)

Yep...

you've got the Holy Grail final slimline Servis series in there Stephen!

Possibly the only photo out there of what might be the Mk318 and Mk321 washers and I havent the foggiest idea as to what the slimline dryer is in there!

This brochure needs posting HUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, if possible :-)

Great brochure there Steve, yes if you could scan to full size there would be a lot of sleepless nights, Paul tried to magnify the page, the controls look switches not buttons I think...

This was the era of the "Best of British" and the Electricity Boards had the Creme de la Creme.....anybody want to pop down and pay their leccy bill for a look and demo?

Hi Mike and Paul

I'll see what I can do. I also have a couple of Servis brochures too so I will scan those and stick them up as a separate post. Its a shame I hole punched them but I was very young at the time and I guess I didn't know better!!

Cheers

SERVIS BROCHURES!!!!!!

Oh my GOD!

Hi Stephen
Calming down slightly - lol - that would be absolutely great. Finding official brochures from the electricity board is exteremely difficult and its irritating, because they had their own Electra brand found nowhere else, or commissioned their own exclusives, from the likes of Hoover, that were advertised no where else.
They sold some rare stuff.

As for Servis....
Servis brochures aren't exactly common either, especially when compared to Hotpoint or Hoover (particularly the latter). Their early to mid 80s ranges tended to be a handful of machines and, speaking for me, I dont ever remember seeing Servis brochures for their slimline models - from my recollectios, they tended to hijack store brochures.
Very intrigued by your Servis brochures - I have a dream as to what the content will be, but wont say. You can probably guess though! :-)

Fingers crossed you fathom a way to make things BIG.

In the meantime, I have just sought permission to post a brochure and the owner has said 'YES!'.
Its an Electricity Board shop brochure, so eminently suitable for this thread and will partner your brochure (irrespective of size) perfectly.
Its from circa 1982, so covers the machines on sale a year or teo prior to yur brochure - I hope this wets your appetite!
Enjoy
Paul
p.s the brochure is courtesy of Mathew (keymatic3203)

The electricity board could certainly be class acts with their brochures - official manufacturer portraits, wity clear details.

Out of interest, just so I know whether to stop posting big pictures. The brochure I just posted, when opened in Microsoft Paint, is a third wider again than my monitor BUT autoshrinks when I post on Discuss O Mat to just fill the full width of the screen.
Is that the way it works on other peoples computer, or have I been slowing down peoples computers for the past 5 years?

Paul
p.s Stephen - in my humble opinion, your brochure(s) is(are) so important, that its(they are) welcome to reduce my computer to a crawl anytime! :-) Dont let my enquiry above put you off posting BIIIGGGG:-)

Another wonderful trip down memory lane!!

Mike?? If i ever win the euromillions, then would you consider selling your Electra set? i'd make very generous offer! :D

i used to love going into town with my Nan,i used to go looking at all the washing machines and vacs when she paid her 'lectric bill at Norweb!

Another Norweb-ber!

I was well known in the Blackburn branch. The employees knew not to bother approaching me or my grandmother, as we patrolled the aisles - well, I patrolled, grandma was dragged around.

Became famous (or infamous) within my family for knowing more about the machines that the guys and girls who worked there.

For me it was circa 1981 through 1985 - a classic store, full of classic machines. Effectively the heyday of appliances in the UK.

Memories!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets excited at all this stuff! I must have picked these up from the NEEB shops back home while mum was buying hoover bags or arguing that they should give her a free plug as the appliance was no use without one!! Hope these come through better. I can also take to work and scan to PDF and email to people who want it - might be better quality than my home scanner. ENJOY!

Interesting stuff. I didn't know Hotpoint were still making the wrap around cabinet (Liberator?) models in '82, I would have assumed they had started the 95000 series by then. I have never seen one of those Servis toploader autos. Do you know who made the Electra washers at that time? Later they were usually based on the Creda version of a Hotpoint / Creda machine. Perhaps these were also Creda but before they joined forces? There were one or two machines I worked on with the English Electric brand which were also a Hotpoint. I don't know if they were also an electricity board brand or some other chain of stores.
I remember breaking up a computerised Hotpoint similar to the one shown but without the wrap around cabinet.

Hello Stephen
I like others would like to thankyou for bringing this brilliant brochure to the group, as Mike says these are the "Best" of British washers, a brochure full of classic machines some of which are in safe hands and a few that are to be found yet

Thanks

Many thanks!

Hi stephen.

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to repost the brochure - its great to be able to see things in better detail and you have definitely openend a can of worms as far as Servis and the electricity board brochure is concerned.

Finally, its good to be able to see photos of the missing collection.

As I mentioned before, literature for 1970's and 1980s Servis front loaders is virtually non-existant - seems it all went into landfill :-(
The mid80s slimline range has, until one of them turned up last year, been mere listings in the 1983/84 Which Magazines. Your brochure has produced pictures of one or two of the others.
Very naughty of the electricity board not to list model numbers on this occasion though! Smacked bottoms for them, bacuase of that:-)

The missing Servis' were:

Mk318 Electronic Slimline 850 De Luxe .... I think this is the Servis in the bottom left hand corner of the sixth page you posted. Thing is that your brochure doesnt appear to show 'De Luxe' anywhere on the fascia! Perplexed.

Mk321 Electronic Slimline 1000 .... this is a problem machine. I think this one appears next to a matching tumble dryer (more in a bit on that one), on the fourth page you posted.
Thing is, I thought I had previously identified this machine, from a poor quality screen grab taken from an advert on youtube, but this machine has gold detailing whereas the brochure machine has red detailing.
Also, the brochure machine MIGHT say 'DE LUXE' on the fascia, to the right of the powder drawer! Again, a bit perplexed.
I have attached a picture of what I have previously thought the Mk321 to be below all this waffle.

Mk322 Electronic Slimline 1000 DE LUXE .... Mike was able to purchase one of these, which surfaced in Lancaster last year or earlier this year - cant remember.
Now the Mk322 definitely has 'DE LUXE' on the fascia, which could connect it to the red detailed machine in the brochure, but the confirmed Mk322 has gold detailing and about twice as many buttons as the machine in the brochure. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

The Quartz in the brochure is a Mk601 - simple! Phew.

Then there is the bloody dryer. I have never seen one of these ever before. Servis dryers, bar the Mk200, have programme drying time information all over the fascias and yet this one doesn't, but instead appears to have more branding/name over and above that that appears on the multivent cover, which actually loks like a blank cover than a multivent one! Perplexed again.

Stephen - any chance of you getting a magnifying glass out and trying to confirm what is written on these Servis machines - names and model numbers, which do generally appear on the bottom left of the poweder drawer areas.

As I mentioned - a can of worms has been opened - AND ITS BRILLIANT! I've been without a juicy research challenge for a while:-)

I for one would love to take you up on your offer of pdf scans of your brochures Stephen, as this does tend to produce higher grade copies than home scanners and you can make them BIGGGGGGGGGG (lol).
Home scanners can be hit and miss (I know - I still dont understand my scanner fully).

As for your other brochures - roll on your Servis ones and you never know with your Hotpoint and Hoover ones - you might have missing link brochures for those too! If you have the time and inclination, then it would be great if you could scan them all.

Paul

Also its shocking to think that, bar the Bendix machines, every machine in that brochure was built somewhere in the UK!

What have we got now :-(

Hi Gary

Glad the brochure has been worthwhile putting on. I nearly didn't bother as I thought it would be old hat so its good to know its got some missing machines in it!!

Hi Paul

I'm afraid I'm going to have to leave you in a state of suspense for a bit longer. I've had a close look but my eyes are not good enough to make out the writing and I don't have a magnifying glass at home. I think the Electricity Council were a bit cheap with their brochures as they seem to pixalate. I'll take it to work tomorrow and see if we have one there. I will also scan and PDF when no one is looking - well I don't want my work colleagues knowing my dirty or should that be clean secret although given that I am an engineer anyway they already think I've got weird interests - well weird to them LOL :))

I did scan the summary brochure for Hotpoint but didn't post as I thought everyone would know them so will post now. I'll have to do the Servis ones tomorrow as apparently I'm hogging the laptop!!

I have a bigger Hotpoint brochure that accompanies that list Alan so will see about getting that up at some point soon.

Paul - is that clip of the Servis from my all time favourite washing powder advert for Ariel with the Bridal hire shop - Mud on't hem and Beaujolais all down't front.... Classic!

Post# 630654 , Reply# 46   10/10/2012 at 13:46 (4,213 days old) by matchboxpaul (U.K)

Hi Phil.

Yep - Hotpoint 17 and 18 series wraparound machines were being built through to 1986. Myself and Rob have managed to acquire the very last of these machines, in the form of the 18873 Microtronic L.E, which was an exclusive machine for Comet. Picture attached below.

Re the Electra's - ironically it appears that the Creda's available were of the old style, whilst the Electra machines were rebranded Creda 17000-series machines of the new style.
With this being an outlet for exclusive models, you would have thought that it would have been the other way around and that Creda would have demanded that its new series of machines were to be sold, whilst the electra branded exclusives were based on the old style. Perhaps this shows the bargaining power of the old Electricity Board Shops.
The Creda's and Electra's in the above brochures are pure Creda, being of their own design and a good few years before the takeover by Hotpoint.

The English Electric machines that you have worked on were either Currys or Comet exclusives - I cant remember for sure which shop commissioned them though.

The toploading Servis Mk311 was a weird machine and the photo contained in the brochure above, to the best of my knowledge, is the ONLy photograph ever found of this rare and rather impractical model.
Goodness knows what Servis was thinking when they commissioned it, especially when you realise that they were built in Canada, to a Kenmore design, and were imported to the UK!
A very weird situation.

Hope tha waffle helps.
Paul

Hi Stephen.

Youve been perusing Hass' Laundry Lab on Youtube then? Yep - the Servis screen grab was from the Ariel Bridal Shop advert - a bit of a classic for sure.

Thanks again for posting your brochures and for taking the time to scan the Hotpoint brochure.
This was the second brochure that covered the Hotpoint Next Generation machines, as the first brochure (which I have never seen) will have had the 9560 Microrofile 1300 De Luxe in it. This model was replaced by the 9561 Microprofile 1400 De Luxe in 1987, which appears in your brochure.

A '....bigger Hotpoint brochure....'! Realy cannot wait and thanks for spoiling us with your brochure collection.

Hughest Regards
Paul

Also its brilliant to see the full range of Creda Debonair washers and dryers - models 11700, 11800, 12000, 37414 and 37415 and the Compact dryer - not something you see every day and a classic much missed design from a once great UK brand.

Cheers

we had the Hotpoint electronic 800 plus 9510 from 1986/7 to 1995,replaced with a Hoover New Wave 1100 which i loved, i can remember all the machines both my grans had too from when i was little up to present day
