Maytag A50 help

Checkrate/Likes Hi guys Just acquired my Maytag A50 twin tub from a member on here. Was in storage for 15 years. She is in good condition and I was wondering if someone could date her. Serial number is: 035483EE series 01. She was not pumping out water from tub or spinner so I gravity drained her. Put her on her side and sprayed WD 40 on the spinner shaft. Thats all she needed. I took the top off and cleaned everything under that. I am tickled pink to pair it up with my original owner Porta Dryer which I have had in storage for as many years. I am used to how the machine works now. A bit frustrating in that in order to drain it must be spinning. And no spinner rinsing. That spinner brake is quite load!!! I am so happy I finaly have one. Thanks to the seller Todd and to his parents who delivered it to nearly my doorstep. Hope she runs for years!

Checkrate/Likes Hi Todd, Your machine is from March 1980...toward the end of their production - I can't remember exactly when they quit making them. Have fun! Ted

Checkrate/Likes *congrats......* on getting that washer!!!!! Really glad to hear you have found your dryers' MATE too. Sounds like you will have a lot of fun with your washer-they are fun little machines really. I'm getting an A50 washer at the end of the month (to add to my 'new' collection), and may also end up obtaining a matching set like yours in Avocado Green. Pics are in my post #43274 Please do keep us posted on some of your adventures and again, Happy Twintubbing! Oh, mr-maytag, could you possibly tell me the mfr. date of the washer in the set I'm looking into? The serial # is: 390143KK Thanks for your help.

Checkrate/Likes Hi TwinTubber... Yours was made in May of 1970. I have an avocado set with stand that was made in Sept/Oct of 1970. I also have a coppertone washer made in March of 1974. Ted

Checkrate/Likes *Hi Ted!* Thanks so much for that info. I had a strong feeling that that machine was 1970 for some reason. I didn't get the serial # from the white A50 that is also on hold for me, but my intuition tells me it is probably a 1980 model. Would love to get the stand for it since I'll possibly have the set. But I doubt that will be easy to ever find. BTW, what's the deal about no spin-rinsing? A Maytag motor can't handle THAT? Just curious why it's not able to perform that function-since almost every other TT does in some way or another. Appreciate your time and efforts, and jocks54, sorry if I 'invaded' your thread in any way-just wanted to learn and maybe we both have at the same time.

Checkrate/Likes *Hi TwinTubber* No - the Maytag isn't made to spin rinse. I think someone on here once said it's too hard on the motor upon start-up. ?? Maybe someone will chime in as to exactly why spin-rinsing isn't advised.

Checkrate/Likes *Thanks for your help!* In identifying the year of my machine. I took the entire top off to try and repair a broken wash lid plastic hinge pin. No luck there but found lots of wash gunk around the lids. Old dried lint and cracked sealant materials. Looks like the machine was used quite a bit. I had let it sit for a few days to see if the spinner ramped up enough again to pump the water out and it did. The wash lid has has me puzzled on how to fix the broken hinge pin. The pin holder is whats broken and it was molded into the lid. Right now I am using a small bolt and washer to keep the lid in place. Gotta say that my Hoover TT was a better machine as far as a lot of things! I loved that spinner rinse and I think one wash impeller did better than the 2 in the Maytag as far as moving the clothes around. But now my Porta dryer has its mate!
