Please welcome a new member to our group: John S. AKA Harvestgold, in SanDiego Calif. John is a little shy in posting but did leave a post on another thread last week. Although John has been a junk collector for many many years, he is rather new to the world of appliance collecting and is getting a very good start. He has aquired a fabulous aqua Kenmore washer and dryer set from the 60's, aqua 1959 GE Frost Guard bottom freezer refrigerator, and his latest purchase was from me: a 1968 GE Versatronic Washer & Dryer in Harvest Gold! This is a very rare set with the completely variable speed feature on the washer........Congrats John and enjoy your new set.......

COOL machines, more details and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting how the dryer has pushbuttons while the washer has ....has...has that other type of switches. What is that word I am looking for?...it escapses me.. anyway..

What is that fabulous dishwasher behind the GE W/D set with the timer in the access panel? Enquiring minds want to know!

I love that set!

Congratulations! A dream set, it brings back so many memories. Loved flicking the toggle switches and listening to the clutches and brakes as ours went thru the cycles.. not the variable speed model, but the look is the same.

Welcome to the club!

No Mike that is not a GE Dw, go up to the first pic and it's
on the left with a timer dial on the bottom left of the front access panel, also, no tell tale rubber GE vents on the top
of the cabinet through the front trim panel. Maybe it's a Westinghouse?

Winter Wash-In

Hi Jimmy,

Looking forward to your visit. Can't wait to check out the appliance junkyard with you again, especially now that I have a laundry list of parts to hunt for.

John will just love that set. I am still holding out for the 1963 GE 1050X that will duplicate what I grew up with.

Will be great to have everyone over for a winter wash-in. We can get the word out on details once you lock down your travel plans.

Re: Dishwasher:

Well, for my 2-cents worth, I believe that the Dishwasher is a "Pull-Out/Drawer-Type" Westinghouse, when Westinghouse was Westinghouse, before the starts of the "Mergers" through the years...

Peace, Happy Holidays, Greetings and Cheers, Steve

Re: For 2-cents more:

"OOPS" I forgot to welcome John S. AKA Harvestgold, in San Diego Calif. I obviously live in the Northern part of Calif, in Sacramento. Congrats also on your GE Washer and Dryer. I will probably get "Horse-Whipped" for saying this, but I prefer Maytag, WP, Kitchen Aid and Kenmore's over GE Washers and Dryers, but everyone has their likes and dislikes of most everything anyway.

Enjoy your Machines, when they arrive and please don't feel so shy, we all will be looking forward with your inputs and suggestions, besides just getting to hear from you as often as you feel like writing Posting Threads.

Peace, Holiday Cheer, Steve

Jimmy, with all that snow.

Regarding the dishwasher, it can't be a rollout type of unit because it has a kickplate type of arrangement with what apears a timer dial on the lowt, buer panel. Jimmy can ya tell us what the brand is? I'm oing out on a limb, but could it be an American Kitchens rotorack?

Re: Thats True Bob:

I didn't see the "Kick-Plate" below, I was mainly focusing on the Handle area. I still think that it is a Westinghouse Dishwasher however!!!

Alas, it seems John Harvestgold has had a bit of bad luck with his new GE Versatronics. They arrived Ok but when he went to use the washer, it leaked water out as fast as it was coming in! Oh no!! Most of the experienced GE guys know now what happened: The tub boot worked itself loose either from improper moving or from bouncing around in the back of a truck for 3000 miles. John is certain that the bottom of the tub has rusted out from being in storage, and I cant seem to ease his mind that just the boot has slipped loose. Maybe some of you GE guys can help tell John its an easy repair. Looks like his GE's will be my first service call in Palm Springs at the end of January..........

GE Boots

Hey John,

Saw this and thought I would let you know that this is such an easy fix. My 94 GE washer leaked last year about this time, it's first problem since I bought it. Jimmy walked me through the procedure, very easy!

Do the inspection/fix as follows:

1. Unplug the machine and turn water off. Move the machine away from the wall about 3 feet.
2. Carefully pop the lid clips with a thin screwdriver, then lift the top so it rests on the clips.
3. With the lid open, carefully move the splash guard off the filter flo water discharge pipe as you raise the lid.
4. With the lid up and laying back against the wall, you can now work in the tub area. Remove the agitator. On yours, you pull up on it. On later models, you have to remove a bolt, then lift it out.
5. With the agitator removed, you will see 3 12 point half inch headed bolts. I had no trouble removing them after 11 years of service. Yours is older so just apply torque evenly as you break them loose.
6. With the bolts removed, lift the inner tub out.
7. You can now access the boot and the related clamps. Depending on what took place, you may just have to reinstall the boot. If it ripped or if a clamp broke, you will have to get the parts, but rest assured, they are easy to find at a good appliance parts house.
8. Clean the sealing surface areas on the outer tub and transmission of any depsosits, etc.
9. Use silicone (I used GE clear) and place a bead around where the seal meets the transmission and outer tub.
10. Install the boot and then tighten the clamps.
11. Reinstall the inner tub, agitator and then lower the lid, again guiding the splash guard over the filter flo discharge pipe.
12. Push the top down to seat the clips.
13. Wait for the silicone to dry overnight.
14. Next day, you are ready to wash!

Total time to access the boot, probably 30 mins. Repair time at most an hour.

If you need help over the phone, give me a call.

Mike
