I absolutely love today's POD touting the advantages of Whirlpool's "Suds-Miser" feature.  This ad was definitely trying to appeal to those women who couldn't bear the thought of letting all that perfectly good wash water go down the drain after only 1 use.  These were the women that were still of the wringer machine mindset.  I still use my suds-saver every laundry day.  Too much fuss and bother for most of today's hectic lifestyles though.  We even have a similar suds tub like the one pictured, minus the storage drawer underneath.

I also love the picture. I wish suds saver would make a come back. I still cannot just wash one load and let the water go down the drain.

The solution to not having a suds-saver is to have more than one washer and drain the suds from one to the other. It's actually better in that the wash water does not get a chance to cool.

If my mother were anywhere near that tub of suds, she would be yelling about putting the cover on to keep the water hot.

My grandmother should have bought a suds-saver washer. She used her regular automatic Maytag more like a wringer. She would start with hot water, remove the clothes from the machine before the first drain-spin, store them in a plastic tub on the floor and add more clothes and bit more detergent to the water. When the second load had finished washing, she'd remove them from the machine and continue using that water until the water or the washing was done. Her ability to hear that machine stop and pause before the wash-spin was uncanny - from anywhere in the house, she'd call out - "Stop the washer before it dumps the water!" Once the last wash-load had finished the entire cycle, she went back and did the spin-rinse-spin routine for all the waiting tubs of sopping wet clothes. It always seemed a bit silly to me, but it was a delightful process and lots of appliance interaction for a young washer-boy.

I too hate to toss out the hot sudsy water and use my Sudsaver machines for the first load. The wash water goes directly to another machine for the second use and from there it may go to the wringer.
Sudsavers were eco-friendly. (I use my Neptunes whenever time is of essence). Hooray for Sudsavers!!

Just gotta love a sudsy!

=) I so remember both my aunt v's 64 lady kenmore ... as well as my nannies Mid 60's wp rca sudsavers. I can still hear that clunk of the solenoid engaging to pump the water in .. and the swish swish of the water level rising around the agitator.... music to a suds saver lover! hehehehe

Nobody I knew had sudsavers, so regretfully I did not get to enjoy the experience until joining this site, and seeing videos that were posted. I can only imagine how enthralled I would have been if I had witnessed the action in person.

electronicontrl: Thanks for posting the photo of your 69 Kenmore 800. It's a beauty.

Have a good one,
James
