I also had this problem with mine! I solved it with a piece of a paper clip that I inserted in both broken parts of the plastic frame (I think I heated the paper clip so it would melt the plastic or I could have used a tiny drill bit too...) and I patched the lint filter that was torn at the very same place. Looks like your dryer is identical to mine!
Do you have the matching washer? Here are pictures of my set: |

If you don't want to repair it, you can probably find one from an early (GM) Laundry Center as they use the same... But I think it's easier to just repair it!
If the dryer vibrates, have a look at the blower for accumulated lint. Mine had a terrible vibration caused by this as half of the blower wheel was packed with lint! Now, it's stacked above my GMini washer as I didn't have enough space for both! |

The broken filter frame was a common problem on these dryers because the SS clip that helps position the filter in the lint filter housing gets a wad of lint on it and then puts pressure against the yellow plastic filter frame and causes it to eventually crack as one tries to push the filter back into place after cleaning. It is important to clean lint out of this area regularly with something like a ruler and as Phil R mentioned when the lint filter is fitting poorly lint will bypass the filter and clog the blower wheel. If the dryer is vibrating from an unbalanced blower wheel it will cause the plastic blower wheel to come loose from the motor shaft and destroy itself and the motor rubber mounts and several other related parts and even the motor itself.
These were cool little dryers but needed loving care if they were going to last very long, sorta like F&P dish-drawer DWs. |

So, now that you mention it, the dryer *is* vibrating. :-( How do I get to the blower fan? I've got the back off (and a load of wet clothes in the washer). Next step? Thx! |
