When I first discovered this forum i was drawn to 2 machines The Restored 57 lady and A Unimatic! The one where the adj goes up and down. And i have never found any kind of ref material at sears on them! So I am wondering if one of the veteran forum users could direct me to where i can learn about this awesome machine!.

BTW i would pay money to see the guys house with all the restored washers. That is so awesome.

You are in the right forum......

akronman's profile picture

and you are discussing 2 different machines.  Lady K is from Whirlpool/Kenmore(Sears), while the Unimatic is GM/Frigidaire.  A great place to start learning is the free "searchilator" on the upper right of this page.

Additionally, at a pretty cheap price, hit the link above for "Manuals and Literature," it will take you to the Automatic Ephemera page, loaded with easy to find repair manuals, info, owners manuals, etc.

But the Search function on this site is great, free, and goes back about 8 years of tons of info from tons of folks.

First thing is just roam this entire site, hit every button.  HEre's just a bit of what is available.

Here is a Diagram

Posted by our Webmaster, Unimatic1140 (Or Robert). I found this very useful. I even printed it out and placed it a school 4 ring binder to see what people thought!

Anyway, here it is (The original thread):

When I first found AW.org, I hit the archives, it was not quite the daunting task it is now, that was several years ago. IIRC, the webmaster posted quite a bit about the unimatic in the very first thread, as a test of the website. alr

Each one of us here had the same wonder and awe in finding this site. I didn't sleep for 72 hours reading and searching while posting like a drunken sailor. The group was very patient with me and now my closet friends in all of life are here. Good luck and happy reading.

it's hard to comprehend from a drawing of whats going on.....and how it all functions.....is there a video somewhere of the tranny and gears performing its function?....

when I got my first 1-18, I sat there for hours on the floor in amazement watching the mechanism in action.......seen plenty of pics, but to see it in 3-D, helps you understand a heck of a lot....pure ingenious design!
