Hi there, what do people think of zanussi machines? I hear the quality has dropped, we hAve one , a zanussi/Electrolux essential 1200 6kg, it's never had any problems, also how do you get to the lint filter on this machine- anyone know?

The quality of Zanussi products has certainly dropped in recent years. In some ways, the quality of the current AEG machines are more like what we know Zanussi to be. I grew up with an S218T and later an FJ1295, both of which were excellent quality. Now, the build quality is no better than the cheaper brands like Beko and Indesit and flexi dose models are horrendously poor - you have to get a Jetsystem machine to get remotely decent quality from Zanussi these days. It's a great shame, as they were once one of the best.

The lint filter on your Zanussi should be at the bottom right of the machine, behind a little flap.

A few years ago, Zanussi started fitting their machines with welded tubs, which means you can no longer renew the drum bearings. You would think if they were doing that they would make sure they had good bearings to start with but they actually downgraded to smaller bearings than they used on the split tub models.
The old Zanussi Washcraft machines were extremely durable and even the later models like the Nexus are well worth having but the newer Zanussis are just average.
People often think that in Europe our standard of living is constantly improving but we enjoyed access to affordable good quality washing machines 20 years ago, now you have to pay extra and go for an upmarket brand if you want something made to last.

Yes I agree the quality has fallen. They also don't seem to make much of an effort with their sales brochures anymore. I used to like how the brochures went into detail, but its not like that anymore.

The Flexi Dose models are horrendous!! I made the mistake of getting one at the beginning of 2012. Had to sell it 7 months later due to poor cleaning performance and an extremely sensitive spin system which would mean it would never spin successfully first time and left me waiting up to 20 minutes at a time for it to spin - even intern spins. It rarely did the full 1600rpm spin when washing a full load. I went and got a Zanussi 1200rpm Jetsystem from John Lewis which is now 4 months old and its been excellent. It spins everytime without fuss and zero vibrations, takes enough water so it washes and rinses properly and it's a very stable machine. It looks to me like its based on the slightly older 2007 range as the shell isn't the newer type which has horizontal indents and the tub is the split type by the looks of the spare parts diagram. Very happy so far.

Zanussi

I agree with the comments but we have a four year old Zanussi. The modern generation I feel take too long to wash unless do so called Super Quick. The S218T we had for 29 years old but started to rust and rubber perished. They were the best you could buy in the early 1980's Sadly due to automation and to keep costs down no longer use induction motors

I don't think I ever actually worked on an S218T but I've ordered plenty of bearing kits for them over the years. For some reason there was an anomaly with Zanussi spare parts lists so that if you ordered a bearing kit for a typical 1000 spin machine such as the FL1032 you were sent the wrong bearings. If you ordered the S218T kit you got the correct parts for the FL1032 plus a surplus rubber seal that goes between the bearing cross and the enamel tub on the earlier models. I ended up with a huge pile of those rubber seals as I hate throwing new stuff away!
