Apart from it only needing a new spider the bearings are fine. The only one thing that is missing is the drying fan motor but with it being a vented version i wouldn't use it anyway.

Well Hass, I Sold two elderly customers a new Hoover Optima OPH616. The first thing i like to ask is how old is your current machine & what make is it, so i got quite excited when they said that it was roughly around 25 years old & that it had a large sticker on the front which said this

Is it really warped like that or is it some fancy lens effect?

Fido,

Sorry about the quality of my so called (warped) Photos i've seen plenty worse on here but i'm not a camera expert far from it. I have one camera & i haven't a clue about Lens Distortion.

Did a water test on the Hoover tonight & it's 100% water tight, it heats to the correct temperatures & the timer advances fine. Just waiting for these 2 parts (currently out of stock) then i will plumb The Mean Machine in.

i have this picture management program and it has a "Barrel distortion" feature that allows you to remove the distortion caused by the lens, this is common on all phone/not expensive cameras.
You see it costs sod all to make a multi mega pixel camera but the expensive part is the lens, the more expensive the camera the more accurately the lens will be made, shaped and finished, the less image distortion you will get.

I thought it was my Fujifilm Ax200 that was the problem Gary, even though i love the camera. I will upgrade to something better. Thank you for getting back to me.

Hi Craig.

Yours is the first A8506 I have ever seen before in colour before!

Looks in superb condition and was definitely a very, very, VERY worthwhile claim for preservation.
Cant wait for more videos, once restoration is complete.

Photo attached underneath showing how to work out the age of Hoover machines. This system was introduced and applied to the widebody machines of the 60s, right through to early range of New Waves.
Later ranges of New Waves were 'Cand-eed', with the month numbers replaced by week of production.
The only thing you need to know yourself is the decade when your machine was produced, so as to know whether the '6' is 66, 76, 86 or 96 - but that aint too difficult! :-)

Congrats again on the A8506. Superb!
Paul

Thanks Paul for the Electron cover photo i love it.

Think i may have come across a problem with the A8506. Should the outer drum be positioned in the center or is it set more slightly more to the left hand side with it being a washer-dryer.

Twisted Drum

electron1100's profile picture
Hello Craig
if the tub isnt sitting square in the cabinet then you have whats known as a twisted drum, this is caused by the rubber suspension mounts going soft, the result of this is the tub wont sit squarly, it affects spin performance,
it is a very common age related problem on Hoovers of this design, but it is a relatively easy job to do, and the parts are still available.

Two tools 1/2"/13mm open ended spanner and a good pair of mole grips and some Molykote DX paste to grease up the parts.
And of course a Hoover Suspension kit

if you need any more help etc dont hesitate to ask
Gary

Gary,
I think i have sorted the problem out by screwing down half an inch on the suspension rod, this has moved the tub more to the center but has lowered the outer tub ever so slightly but it shouldn't cause any problems i hope.

electron1100's profile picture

ah well if the nut has come loose then by all means it should be ok, the rubber doesnt look distorted or perished, it is a bit odd that the nut is loose as the ones used have built in threadlocks on them, you should be able to tighten down the nut as far as it will go (runs out of threaded section).
The tub will drop on its suspension when it has filled up with water with a load in it, this is more pronounced on the high level rinse cycle

Gary
