Hi, like the title says, my maytag TL depenable-care makes a banging sound during spin. Everything looks visually OK with panel removed, maybe slight shaking.
Should i assume its main bearing ???
I know there are some old timers here that have worked on many of these in the past.
Great machine, lasted almost forever. Any advice greatly appreciated.

then again, my wasn't "slightly" shaking. Occasionally it would go out-of-balance during the spin causing the tub to slam against the cabinet walls.

With the panel removed can you locate exactly where the banging sound is coming from?

Is it coming from near the top of the tub? That might indicate that something is loose or broken at the top of the tub involving the balancer ring.

If it sounds like it's coming from under the baseplate, there could be an issue with something binding/not releasing in the brake package.

From your description, it sounds like it's NOT the tub banging against the cabinet.

I may be wrong, but this doesn't like a bearing issue to me. Bearings often grind or squeal when they are on the way out.

Other Maytag folk have thoughts to share?

fixed

Mr Kenmore71,,thanks for good advice. Banging was coming from top of machine.
Opened top and saw totally dried-out "water fill hose" banging top of tub ring. So dried-out it had lots of room on hole it goes into. Put some silicone around it and banging stopped. 25 year old dependable care back on the road again :)
Maybe good for an additional 25 years. Never had any repair done. Dont make them this good anymore !!!!
Put smile on my face and hopefully your as well :)
