Jason, these were a niche product, but still popular in areas where space was at a premium. typical D&M product. If you believe the 8/19 broadcast date, that was my mom's 52nd b-day and I was getting ready to head back for my Jr. year in college. It is very fun to watch the nice old appliances and hear what their retail prices were. In today's dollars, that RadarRange is $2101. The dishwasher/range is $3,716. John had a service call where somebody replaced the porcelain tank D&M dishwasher in one of those stack units with a plastic tank machine. After the first dinner, the tank top had melted. UH OH! |

My best friends mother had one back in the early 70's. It was a new subdivision and I think they were part of the new home package you could have included. I thought it was cool. But if it were on the market today, no way since you basically have to turf the whole thing at once if something major happens.

....Not everyone had one of these, but they were around for quite a number of years. They were a niche product that fulfilled a very specific space-saving need.
There's a funny story about one of these. I knew someone in Atlanta who bought a condo with one, and about a year after she moved in, one of us asked her how she liked her dishwasher. Her response? "I don't have a dishwasher!" She didn't cook, you see, and so the range was just an object she saw without really seeing, if you know what I mean. She didn't have a clue that the lower part was a dishwasher instead of a lower oven. Some people just aren't very conscious when it comes to stuff they're not interested in! |
