I met this guy when visiting a friend who lived in Scoraig, a remote community on the west coast of Scotland. Scoraig has no roads, electricity or mains water and can be reached by boat or a 2 hour walk around the top of cliffs. I did not see his washing machine but I got a similar description of his violin making activities.

Fido, i think your post is quite appropriate. It would of been better if it "landed" in the super forum. We have all made mistakes with "create a thread". When the webmaster notices this thread, he will if appropriate prolly move it over to "super". Thanks for posting it is always interesting to see "off the grid" ways of doing things. alr2903
