Hey guys,

I have been reading this forum for a while, but just joined it today. I really love it in every way, and it seems like everyone is having great time!

My main interest is vintage vacuum cleaners, and have a collection of about 100 machines. However, I have recently taken an taken an interest in vintage washing machines. I love the colors that a lot of the old washers came in, such as copper, pink, and harvest gold. I also really like studying the history of vintage appliances, and thouroghly enjoyed the video section of this site. What a blast from the past! I would really love to start a washer collection, but unfortunately, I have limited space, and really does not seem possible right now. I will say if I could have one vintage washer right now, it would be a Maytag A606. My neighbor has one, and it is built like a tank, I like the layout of the control panel with the single dial in the middle, and I have also been a huge fan of Maytag. What are your opinions on the A606? Also, what are the differences between the 606 and 806?

Once again, I really love this site, and am looking forward to meeting new friends here.
Evan Rogers

Hi, Evan...

Either the 606 or the 806 is a wonderful machine. The differences are slight. The 806 is newer. Either one is worth having.

Modern Maytags aren't as wonderful.

I'm the flip of most who have posted...washers are my major interest, and vacuums are a smaller (yet real) interest.

Welcome.

Hi Evan, Welcome to the Appliance club! I remember being one of the first to meet you and your dad when you came to your first vacuum convention in Louisville. You are going to love it here. This is a great group of people. Give your dad and mom my best. Looking forward to seeing you in St. Louis this June. Terry

Welcome, Evan! You're increasing the ranks of the vac-heads, here. I didn't give vacs a second thought til I started seeing all the great photos posted by vac-enthusiasts. One of the fun aspects of this forum is getting turned on to new things. Sure would be great to see some of your vac collection. Posting pictures is pretty simple---if I can do it, ANYONE can.

Hey Evan!

Welcome, this is a great site, great people, and the appliances are awesome!
I love the video section too, my favorite commercial is for the Control Tower, coolest looking washer ever!
I grew up with a Maytag A608 in Harvest gold, those are neat machines and built like tanks.
Hooverland is gonna contain some washers one day...
Glad you're here!
Jeff

Thanks For the Warm Welcome!

Bobby- Yes, I have noticed that there are many people here (myself included) that also belong to the VCCC and vice versa. I think that is great!

Petek and tolivac- I will try to get pictures as soon as possible. I have many favorites and "prized possessions" such as a GE Roll-Easy, Sanimagic Priscilla, Bison Mark II, several Canadian Electroluxes, and a Lewyt 77 Bigwheel just to name a few. I have mostly older machines in my collection, but also many newer ones, like a Miele Red Velvet, Nilfisk GD90, Kirby G4, Royal Powertank, and a Royal all metal upright.

I already see that there are many people I already know, like Jeff and Terry.

I would love to go to a wash-in sometime soon so I can meet many of you. I know there is one coming up in March, but I am afraid I won't be able to make it. Hopefully there will be another one sometime in the near future.

I never new till a month or so ago that there was any differences in US / Cdn Eluxes. Still not sure what they are or if they're the same machines with a different name.
Doug Smith has quite a few of them including the two I have a model 89 green, and an AP280 with PN...here's a link to his website. I donated him my Watermatic shown on there now because I'm trying to stick to uprights, other than connies and maybe a few Eluxes because they're quiet.

I once came across what appeared to be a green Electrolux model G, but with the bag going in the way a Silverado or SuperJ would. Someone told me it was from the UK. It must have been made in the mid 60's. Anyone know anything about this odd duck?

Howdy Evan and welcome!!! Reggie mentioned you on AIM about how you were interested in appliances!!

Along with my 13 washers (10 automatics, 1 Maytag A-50 twin-tub that I'm not having much luck with at the moment and am this close to throwing out and replacing with a Hoover, and 2 tabletops), I have a small but growing collection of (vintage) vacuum cleaners as well, and this August (when I turn 18) I couldn't be more excited to join the VCCC as a full-time member!! Have fun here...and good luck finding an A606! Once you start looking for machines though, you won't want to stop at one!! ;-)
