It sounds like you are describing a N2LP. That serial number indicates manufacture in November of 1956. If the agitation knob and wringer release bar are red that should be correct. The blue (turquoise) agitator is a later replacement. The original agitator for that machine would have been made out of black bakelite. Bakelite cracks and shatters pretty easily if dropped so it's not a shock that it was replaced. The turquoise agitator is made from polypropylene and is much stronger in that regard!
A question for you...did you or anyone else transport this washer on its side recently? If so, it is possible that oil leaked out of the breather hole on the top of the transmission. If, after wiping ALL traces of oil off of the transmission and underside of the machine there is no more leakage that it likely what happened. This not usually a big deal because rarely does enough oil leak out to compromise the operation of the transmission. It just makes a mess! If there continues to be leakage there is a bigger problem with a seal that will need to b looked at if you want to keep this machine going for the long term. Mark |
