And when these first came out around 2007 or so we had such high hopes for them.

And some people say they chew up clothing faster than even a Shredmore does!

So true

That owner seems to be 100% honest. It works but doesnt clean, which we all knew. Bought an old one that really does clean clothes. That ad is a classic.

I gave that first one a "best of craigslist" vote.

Very refreshing to see an honest, funny H E washer add. Feel sorry for MANY suckered into these bling boxes.
My own BROTHER bought a wash plate Kenmore about 2 years ago. He did NOT consult me ahead of time. His 5-6 year old Kemore DD quit--his wife/family overload all the time--and he and his wife were enamored by bling & a sales pitch.
Couple of service calls/parts replacements already and so-so cleaning.
Maybe an SQ next next time after the extended warranty is up on the bling machine.

Those ads are SO TRUE and clever-maybe the HE machine might make an expensive target for the shooting club range,or a crunchy meal for the trash truck. At how poorly these are made-you caould probably shoot thru both sides with your .22!For the person that had the DD machine-should of had that fixed rather than getting the teaspoon of water and detergent HE machine that just dampens, whirls, and spins the clothes.Or these would be good for the "golf club" guy or the brick testing.

It's too bad Speed Queen doesn't do more advertising. They could sell truckloads of their washers to disgruntled owners of HE top-loaders. They're the only game in town if you're looking for a traditional, agitator-based washer that uses enough water for an agitator to do its job properly.

Front-loaders can get away with using less water because clothes are tumbled. Manufacturers keep trying---and failing---to find ways to get a top-loader to agitate a load with little water. The result? Hundreds of user complaints about damage to fabrics, poor cleaning, and frequent unbalanced loads.

Quite honestly, I think it's time manufacturers of top-loaders realized it would actually be a boon to sales to proclaim "THIS IS NOT AN HE WASHER" given that people have come to loathe any machine with "HE" printed on the console.

I checked user reviews at Consumer Reports online, and only 6 of 90 reviews were negative. Several of those had to do with the same issue: A manufacturing error in which grease trapped between the tubs was leaving marks on clothes. One user complained that suds was backing up out of the drain pipe (obviously not the machine's fault). Many reviews begin with some variation on "I can't believe CR gives this washer such a poor score!"

Very true, but then again, Consumer Reports doesn't have to live with these HE washers that they give such high scores to. The consumer has the FINAL say, and it seems that Speed Queen AWN542 is the number one rated washer according to Consumer Reports subscribers!! How can ther be such a huge discrepancy between testers and consumers?

I have a Cabrio pair like the 2nd ad and fortunately got them free. The bearings are not long for this world as it makes noise while spinning.

While I'm not convinced they do that great of a job cleaning W/O causing premature ware, the one thing I do think they do well is spin/extract!
