Were it 1970, this thread might actually be a competitive horse race with a number of brands vying for the top spot. In 2013, not so much. Normally, I hate shut-outs; but I'll have to go with Speed Queen.

Speed Queen but I haven't had any other top loads. Had to use my Mom's BOL GE top load HE....couldn't believe the little amount of water used and that I couldn't adjust the water level!

My wife and I bought a Speed Queen AWN432. It works and gets the cloths clean.

If I were buying a new top loader

it would be Speed Queen based upon all the good things I have read about them in the posts on this site.

Speed Queen, but I also like Fisher and Paykel.

Hmm

1970: WP/Kenmore

Now: SQ. I pushed for a new SQ washer but "somebody" wanted an HE machine that could wash her king sized comforter, so LG it is, which would've been my second choice.

Depends on what the individual finds most important. Best washing? Most durable? Most bells and whistles? Best looking?

We chose a Speed Queen 3.5 years ago after our $1200 Kitchenaid died after 6 bad years. Our old avocato colored Moffat gave us a good 20 years, and we expected at least a good a return on the high end KA.

Sure it looks and works like something from the 70's, but I'm confident we will get 15 years from it.

Whirlpool commercial washers

Are also very good. They are still the super reliable Direct Drive machines. Unfortunately the rinse level still has to be reset.

"On the Market" implies "New".

My vote would be for SQ/Huebsch as well.

I'd have to say SQ too

mark_wpduet's profile picture
But - if SQ is sticking to the OLD (which is a good thing) then why are they lowering the water levels? I thought that was manufacturer choice that was done due to tax credits and not necessarily something they are forced to do. Good thing they are adjustable.
