I think that Roper range just miiiiiight be an early gas self-cleaner.
There were some gas models around in the late '60s/early '70s, but they were expensive and I don't think they sold too well. Only in the '80s did the concept grab hold. Every one of those appliances is deluxe - not a BOL unit anywhere. |

Possibly, but not necessarily. I have had a couple WP models with that white plastic "lens" panel come through my garage that were NOT lit. I opened them up to see if I could get the light working, only to find there was NO provisions for a light.
I have of course had others which looked similar and did have a light. I think it was only the TOL model and the one right below it which had lights. The next model down looked as if it had a light, but didn't.
However there is room inside to add your own light............

This was indeed the first SCGR, Roper brought these out around 1966 or 7 several years after GE brought out the electric P-7 SCRs. This Roper was an unusual SCGR in that the heat from the gas flame did not go through the oven cavity [ no gassy smelling baked goods ] instead all the heat was directed around the oven liner. This made for a slower heating less efficient oven, but also one that was smooth inside with no openings or vents around the oven bottom, they even had an electrically heated catalytic smoke eliminator in the oven vent like an electric SCO. The other bad thing about this range was the messy broiler is still under the oven in a drawer [ the only SCGR to ever not have the broiler in the main oven cavity ].
If someone is going after these appliances and does not want this range I would be glad to buy it for the museum. I had the Sears KM version of this range in the warehouse for several years and finally gave up on it as it was just in too bad a condition. |
