Well - After turning to you folks for help in January with questions on the Speed Queen, We finally decided to go ahead and order them yesterday afternoon...

We went with the AWN412 Washer and ADE3LR Dryer - Total cost out the door was $1333.08... That Included deliver, haul away of the old washer & dryer, and setup & installation included all the hoses, and the cord set for the Electric Dryer....

They will be delivered on Next Saturday -

Now I have a question for you all - I want to raise the water level in the tub as high as possible - Does anyone know how high up the tub one can safely go without causing damage to the washer ? I was thinking the second or third row of holes from the top?

I do not want it to be so high as to pour over the top of the tub with a large load like a comforter, but I know it will have to be raised...

According to the Dealer, the new Washers made in 2013 now have the water valve opening the same size for both hot and cold - He said the hit side is no longer restricted - So we will have to see if this is true or not - I do not think he is making it up, becuase on the sales card on top of the machine that showed the construction, one of the points made was that Speed Queen is now the only company selling in the US that give you a "pure hot water wash" when you select hot -

We will have to see -

Anyway - Thank you for the help in advance on the Tub Water Level...

Dan P.

Instructions

You will find them on the link below. Essentially, you'll want to "crank it" so it fills, watch it and when the level is right FOR YOU, turn it back until it stops. This should give you all the water usage you NEED for a wash.

Good luck, and I'm glad to hear you made the RIGHT washer and dryer choice :-)

I believe jeffg once posted that he set his to fill just to the top row of holes in the tub. Congratulations on your new purchase. Keep us posted with a few user reviews!

fill level

you should get to the second or third level of holes without raising the water level. I raised mine to the first row of holes.

I would recommend that you try out your fine new Speed Queen first. I just let my wife use the machine and offered to reset it for her but after a couple days she only hit the reset knob once and that was for our blankets. My wife declined having me reset her Speed Queen.

Since we are on a mound septic system we have to limit how much we use water to 240 gallons of water a day, by using the machine only to its factory setting my wife can do 4 loads and we still are not maxing out the useage of the water as the specs say that it is using 31 gallons a load.

New SQ Top Load Washer

combo52's profile picture

Yay, I am sure you will enjoy these machines, as a SQ dealer I think you will find the water level very good as it comes from from the factory, I end up turning up the WL in only about 1 in 10 machines we deliver and install. The hot setting is all hot, but when set on warm 70% comes from the cold side and only 30% comes from the hot side, so unless your hot water is really hot or your cold water is not too cold you may find the warm setting gives you a cooler wash temperature than you like, this can be dealt with if you like.

I have only added water to mine a few times. You may find it is not necessary.

Well - The newest additions to the house were delivered on Saturday !!!!
These things are great - Very well built... I am glad that we made the right decision going with the Speed Queens over getting LG or Samsung Front Loaders... (My partner really did like the LG !!!)

So, Since I am not great with posting multiple pictures at one, I will post a bunch on at a time -
Not that everyone here does not know what they already look like, but some may not have seen them in real pictures...

First The 11 year old Frigidaire Washer.... (My father worked for Frigidaire/WCI/Electrolux for 25 years - Everything in our house is Frigidaire since we still got the employee discount even though he passed away)

Inside of dryer.... I love the fact that clothes do not get stuck between the baffles and the fron or rear of the drum like they did in the Frigidaire... Speed Queen was smart enough to angle the ends of the baffles...

Look how SOLID they both look! They look like freaking TANKS! I love that :)

Did you find it necessary to adjust the water level?

Post# 673059 , Reply# 20   4/15/2013 at 20:59 (4,027 days old) by danorob1 ()

So I would like to thank everyone who answered all my questions during my multiple post over the last three months...

Again - I think we made the right choice in getting these.... This weekend I will raise the water level to the top row of holes as it currently fills to the second row of holes from the top, and I like lots of water !!!

The Warm wash is actually warm... Unlike the Frigidaire which was only slightly warm to the touch...

One last question - Has anyone opened these up yet - Looking At the parts listing on line, it looks like there are two screws on the sides near the front that screw the top to the body, in addition to the normal two spring clips in the front....

I want to take a peak "under the hood" while it is still nice and new (and clean)...

Thank you all again...

Dan

So I just noticed looking at the pictures in the posting of the dryer panel that it says "lifetime Interior" on the front of the panel... What the hell does that mean ??? It is warrantied forever ???

I believe they mean that the stainless steel tub will last the life of the machine. No tub rusting there. And SQ used to advertise that the more you use your Speed Queen the softer the surface of the wash basket will be.

Hello All

Now that a few weeks has gone by I decided to raise up the water level - I did not go to the very top of the tub as some people did on their u-tube videos, I just went to slightly below the top row of holes...

The reason I did the raise was that with a full load, the water was just coming to 3/4 full in the basket, and I needed a litte more...

My concern is this - In my old Frigidaire, when the water was too high because of what I thought was a faulty water level switch, it would go into the spin, and spin the water out of the tub through vents in the top of the tub ring...

Since I know the Speed Queen goes into its spin with the water in the tub as well, is there any chance raising the water level will spin the water out of the tub?

And Also - How does one lift the top to see the insides?
I tried the putty knife on the front corners, but it will not budge - Is is screwed down as well ?

Thanks,
Dan

Raising the water level in a new SQ TL washer

combo52's profile picture

You should have no problem with leaks by doing what you have done.

To raise the top you first remove the two screws at the bottom of the front panel and lift it away and off the washer, then you will see two more screws at the top that hold the washer top to the sides of the cabinet, once these are removed the top can be lifted [ it is hinged at the rear of the washer ]

Hope you enjoy your new washer, I feel that it is a much studier and better performing machine than the WCI-Frigidaire you had before, John.

This will be my next set as well.

Sturdy.

Tuff.

for perfection, can they add a light to the overhang on the control panel.

Thank you for the info John -

I just wanted to be sure the water would not be "spun" out of the tub...''

Thanks as well for the tips on the screws.. Now I can open this baby up and see what she is made of...

It does seem a little odd having the top screwed on - Is this an oddity from it's commercial heritage?

Dan

Washer Top Screwed in Place

combo52's profile picture

It does not strike me as odd, every real Maytag washer ever built had the top screwed down along with over 100 million WP-KM DD washers and every GE TL washer since 1996, just to name a few that are screwed in place.

Dan, never had a problem with leaks in our SQ, regardless of water levels. The outer tub has a substantial overhang on the inner, and the washer drains so quickly that water is down to safe levels before it even starts ramping up to speed.

Although we're careful to not sudslock the machine, so I can't vouch for what happens in that case. :) We've been close a few times, in fact one of the few changes I'd love to make to the washer's default cycle is to add a few more pulses of water during the pre-rinse spin, like the old Lady Kenmores. It makes a huge difference in rinsing performance compared to just one shot.
