Coppertone. Seller says the washer leaked once recently, from the right side. They got new wood flooring, so she's leery of it. Her usual repairman gave an estimate, but instead of fixing it first, she decided to drop the asking price by $50. $150 for the pair. She isn't "showing" them until Saturday and unfortunately several people are already in line for a look. Sge said they've always been kept indoors, so are in excellent condition.

Wish me luck.

I'm hoping the color will put off the other lookers, since it's so dated.

I called the seller, offered the original price she had in mind if she'd give me first-choice at them, and if the machines are in as good condition as she says. No answer, left a message. No response yet.

If indeed they are A906's, offer more than the original asking price to get her attention.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the small leak, it's probably easily found and repaired, many parts are still available.

The 906 all pushbutton machines are the most rare and just imagine what they look like in coppertone!!

A906s are what Granny Clampet had...

I recently watched one of the first color episodes of the Beverly Hillbillies and they frequently did the shots in the kitchen where you could clearly see what were A906 models in the laundry room portion of the set. Coppertone too, IIRC...

It's a done deal, barring any natural disasters. I don't take possession until next week, after her replacement set arrives.

Sorry, no pics of the interiors. The washer interior is in great shape, even the filter and dispenser cup are immaculate. Is there supposed to be a tub light? If so, it's burned out.

Note -- pics are at the seller's house.

Drum light works.

The literature on the left is for the machines, or the washer anyway. She showed me that she has the stuff but I didn't look through it.

NOTICE the literature package to the right. If that's the material for her NEW MAYTAG set, it appears to be a FRONTLOADER.

CONGRATULATIONS GLENN!!! These are such incredible machines and I'm glad you rescued them!! I'll try to call later on.

This is the "turning point": soon you'll kick the F&P's out of the laundry room (and replace them with this 906 pair), trade the I30 in for a new pickup, install more water/drain connections throughout the house, and constantly be on the hunt for more vintage machines. Now you're suddenly a full-time collector before your own eyes...boom boom done!! :) LOL

I can't wait to come out and see them! WOOHOO!

Lucky You!!

What nice machines. I'm sure you will really enjoy them. Be careful moving them so they don't get scratched or damaged. Don't tip the washer forward otherwise the inner tub will dent the front panel. (I learned that the hard way)

Glenn,

This is fantastic news! Congrats - another find of the year! It is hard to believe that they are coppertone, let alone a set of A906's.

The tub light is probably burnt out - not a problem. Head to L*we's or Menards and pick up a 15w and a 25w 120v double pole bayonet bulbs. It calls out for a 10w, but I tried the 15 and the 25, and perfered the extra light of the 25w bulb in my A806.

This is awesome!

Ben

A beautiful pair! Congrats! I've always wondered about the Partial load buttons. What level does it fill to on those cycles?

Eugene, it fills to the equivalent of "Medium" on the washers that have water level buttons. Only whites & color cottons have patial load settings. The rest are full water level fill automatically. You can't adjust water level otherwise.

The 'tags are home.

Her hubby is a little conflubergasted that somebody collects 'old' machines, but he'll get over it. She noticed the pics being snapped the other day, figured somehow it was to share online. She's pleased the machines went to someone who appreciates them.

I don't have a way to run the dryer in my garage, no 220V outlet. The washer can be run, with cold water (Tide Coldwater! ;-) ). However .... I'm pondering on whether to put the 'tags in the house for a while. I really don't wanna move out my DEGX1 'cause I like it too much, so maybe just the washer could come inside ...

Carol and Barry, perhaps a visitation is on the horizon. And rest of the 'local' folk, too, of course. (Not likely anybody would make a long-distance run just to see a couple old 'tags, hehe.)

I agree...I'd keep the DEGX1, but you definitely need to try the A906 for a while!! :)

Rapid-advance, check. Can't have pushbutton start, ala KitchenAid, without it.

Service/override/advance button ... I'm assuming so, but I haven't yet looked for it.

Lots to investigate.

Anybody with service manuals for this pair feel like coughing up a copy?
