That jade green commercial version is one of her favorites.

The white mini-basket is a rare version that was introduced in the middle of the 1964 model year and was quickly changed to a green color; it was an amazing score from a recent washing machine purchase; it was just waiting on a basement shelf and seemed to belong to no appliance in sight. The green version on the left has discolored badly and is awaiting a make-over that won't damage it but would restore it's original jade green color. I wish a plastics expert would chime in on how this happens and what can be done about it.

Two more mini's and her mini-basket collection will be complete! Not pictured: the GE Daily Dipper. It's in a previous thread from about a year ago and she believes it only works in a Wringer Washer.

Pictured below, the illustrated history of the GE spiral ramp activator. From left to right: #1. 1961-early 1964. #2 late 1964-1965.

#3. 1966-1969. #4 commercial washer activator. #5 re-introduced in the late 1980's and then dumbed-down to have a minimal boring Activator cap (boo-hiss).

Clara and I have an extraordinary fondness for the green Straight-6 and the light blue Straight-8 but we both agree that the straight Activators were a mistake; probably introduced to increase the capacities, efficacy and appeal of the mini-basket to the great detriment of the basic washer. She's missing two samples and would love to get her hands on, #1: A black Straight-6:

I believe I pulled that one out of a MOL '67 or so machine. I've used it from time to time in the '69, but I'm not a huge fan (big shocker).

That is one damn impressive collection! I didn't realize there were so many different Mini Baskets, and of varying sizes.

I grew up with a blue "straight 6" in our GE FF, and now have the black version in my 69 FF. I love that agitator, it handles a full load quite well and though turnover is slower, I never have a complaint with the results.

I saw u had quite a few mini baskets, I am needing a white mini basket that fits the extra large cap. swirl ramp agitator and that also fits the big filter flo pan. If u have an extra one of these or have one that u don't need "which I doubt" lol everyone wants all the mini baskets we can collect, but jus a thought and question. Thanks-Doug!

This little guy appears half the size of the other Mini-Baskets shown. Is it one of the earliest examples? What year did the Mini-Basket debut?

LOLLL

Very impressive! Our 1975 GE washer in harvest gold was one of the best machines we ever had. Went off-blance a lot, but other than that it was a real work horse!

I have an extra white one that I'd be willing to sell, but it's for a Straight-4 Ex-large Activator. I'll keep an eye out for a spiral one; they come up on eBay more frequently than any other.

Wow the size of the mini baskets changed like skirt lengths of the 1970's Mini, Midi and Maxi. That certainly is an extensive collection Bajaspuma. Thank You for sharing them. Your window in the first post must face east, I like the morning sun. Was there any reason some of the curved vanes had the ridges and some did not? arthur

If you mean the 3 pairs of ridges running down the sides of the 3 ramp vanes, I think they were just decorative like racing stripes (the kind on the sides of sports cars is what I mean). The "shoulder" ridges on the tops of the vanes were added in late 1964 to carry the new larger mini-baskets and to make them look more effective. They came with the new claim that the machines were now capable of washing 14 lb. loads (of mixed heavy fabrics {made with lead threads, presumably}).

Nothing in the GE family moved laundry through water more effectively than those original spiral Activators, although the 3-vaned straight Activators in the solid tubs didn't do a bad job, probably because although the solid tubs were shallower than the perforated tubs, they were wider and more conducive to rollover.

One thing about those filter pans.....................

In the late sixties, early seventies, you could crack someone's head open with the filter pan, then the eighties came, and they became the weight of a Hasbro frisbe!

Lint dish weapons-later ones the head would break the pan.

Thanks Bajaspuma, I did mean the "racing stripes type". I see your point about supporting larger mini baskets. I now see the difference in agitator number 1 on the table the vanes do not twist all the way up to the cap. Man you have some "activators". arthur

edit: I meant agitator number one in reply #4. Thanks again!!!

The GE collection is awesome but the Kenmore's Pent-a-vane, straight vane and the Vari-Flex looking mighty lonely sitting on the the couch next to the KitchenAid.
The four are plotting......, whose going to come out first!
