This is a herrin built performa style washer. I would assume this is the transmission and I am ready for it to go any day now, I love this washer so of course im going to replace the transmission when it breaks, even though its a bit pricey. I was just wondering if anybody here would be able to tell me how the machine is likely to fail and what is going on inside the transmission that is causing the clunking? it begins this fast paced clunking when the spin cycle first starts then gradually stops as the washer spins up to full speed, but the agitator is staying in place while its clunking so nothing has completely snapped off in there yet. Would it be the clutch spring/input gear that is most likely causing the noise or something else? not that I am going to disassemble the transmission and try to fix it myself but I would just like to know whats going on that's causing the clunking.
