Last week, I went in a domestic appliances shop and I found this Bosch SMI5082/17 dishwasher.
It has never been used, it was on their window a long time ago and then, left in a corner, sitting for years...

I didn't pay for it, they just wanted to get rid of it....
Acording to Bosch, they stopped making them In 1996. It is one of the last mechanical that Bosch made, after that, electronic was introduced.

I am a big miele fan and I was going for a miele, but this one came in my way.....

I made a line on the door so it looks more like the 80s' double panel.

It works great and I love it!!!

What do you think?
Do you like it?

Here is your picture turned upside. It's a nice dishwasher, it was a near TOL model.

You're welcome. Did you make the picture with an iPhone or do you use Windows8?

Let us know about your experience with this dishwasher. Bosch used to be the best sold dishwasher in many countries.

Thank you for your interest!!!

The picture was taken with the I-Pad.

We have super soft, rain's water here, so washing machines and dishwashers have a good performance and last for a long time.

This dishwasher, has great results with no rinsed dishes, no rinse aid, no special salt, only Finish powder.

I use the normal, 65C program which is not the bigger one (pots and pans).
It consumes 20 litres of water (according the manual) and the cycle lasts 70min.

I wanted to add Sodasan rinse aid,

en.sodasan.com/rinse-aid.html...

but because it contains a lot of citric acid,
I am afrid that it will cause corrosion to metals and ruber parts of the machine
in the long term.

I do not want to use Finish rinse aid, too many chemicals and I don't realy need it...

I know that Finish powder and all of their detergents containing phosphate salts,
but I don't know any realy good eco frindly detergent...

Any recomendations??? (no need for pre-rinsing before put dishes in) ?????

Thank you in advance!!!!

Eco Friendly

Don't go there. Even without phosphates, Eco detergents are a terrible excuse, since they aren't developed enough. You also have to dose liberally and the product is expensive. Finish is the way to go, IMO

Thank you for your suggestion!!!

What about citric acid rinse aid?
Do you think is bad for the machine within the time?

Post# 674108 , Reply# 8   4/20/2013 at 01:06 (4,021 days old) by washer111 ()
Yes

The citric acid is generally good for keeping machine's clean. If you don't have any specific spotting or drying problems, don't bother with it. I personally thought it was like fabric softener, but, I'm probably wrong

A rinse agent containing citric acid doesn't hurt a dishwasher. As a matter of fact citric acid is a rather mild acid, that is the reason it is used for descaling espresso machines. Vinegar is much more agressive. Also there is only little rinse agent used in the last rinse.

I used rinse agent in the first fourteen years or so when I had my AEG dishwasher. Later I changed to all in one tabs. In it's life span of 18.5 years I never had a problem with rust or corrosion.

Finish rinse aid....

is the best IMHO and as Louis says there is such a small amount used that acid would not cause a problem, bear in mind when that machine was produced we did not have all in one products so it would have been developed for using rinse aid.

Thank you very much for your messeges!!!!

I was a bit concerned about Sodasan citric acid rinse agent also because the ruber parts of my DW are already 18 years old (around the door, they look great, no dry at all!!!)and I am afraid it could be bad for them in the long term as a bit of the last rinse water remains in the filter area.

My mother has a Neff 45cm full intergated DW and the last few years is using all in one Finish tabs and she is realy satisfied with them. (she never pre rinse, and run the DW every two days...)

I got one Finish Quantum all in one tab from her today and I am going to give it a try tonight.

If I will see that it gets rinsed well, and no chemicals remain on the glasses, I will go for them and I will stop using Finish powder. Also, I will not need rinse aid.

Quantum Tabs

They are too expensive for what you get. For automatic dishwashing to be truly saving you money, you'll have to use regular powder. I see no difference on our Dishwasher, just more foam. I think the rinse-aid function of the tablets also gets "washed away," as we still had to use Rinse-Aid when our home water softener broke down when we first got our DishDrawer.

And the Salt function? The salt function on these tablets is a gimmick: You have to add the salt to the water softening system in the machine - something the tabs can't do.

I recommend regular Finish powder, plain and simple. You get far better value for money, dose as you require for each wash (Soil/Amount of dishes). One 1.5Kg bottle of the stuff lasts us around 90 washes (For $18). Finish tablets could cost us at least $100 for the same amount of washes, no kidding.

Thank you very much for your recommendation, really appreciated.

In therms of cleaning, Finish powder did great!!!
However, it was obvious that rinse aid was needed.....

Even "washed away" finish quantum tab has better results, everything comes out more dry.

I don't want to use rinse aid, it is a strong chemical that remain on dishes.

The Finish quantum did very well last night and got rinsed completely on the standard 65C program.

I will try Fairy Platinum as well and I will let you know.
Many people complain that they can taste it in their food....
Other say it is the best ever....

I want to have my personal opinion.

Citric acid is not a strong chemical. It's a weak organic acid that is found in citrus fruit. It's also used in all kinds of food to give it a bit of an acid taste. Besides that even your own body makes citric acid. So don't worry about it's use.

Rinse-Aid

Check to see if there is a setting on it, because it may be set to full, which would explain the chemical taste on your dishes (or other peoples). Set it it Low and go from there. Even a little will be enough if you have trouble in soft water.

Hello every body!!!!
Today I am off my island, went in Athens, Greece for some shopping and I bought tow packets of detergent, Finish Quantum, 60 tabs 14,99€ and Fairy Platinum, 48 tabs, 12,60€ .

I wonder how much they would cost in your countries...???

Do you think those are reasonable prices?

Sounds good to me.

Finish Quantum, 40 tabs are €9.99 here.

Fairy (Dreft overhere) Platinum, 30 tabs are €9.99.

The 1.5kg bottle of Finish Powder (2x Concentrate) we purchase (and lasts roughly 80-100 washes) costs about 14 euros. We gave up tablets completely because of this (And lets face it, with soft water, some of the "features" or "gimmicks" in the tablets are useless: Like "Salt" or "Rinse-Aid" or even "Tea Stain Removal"), and we get great results, with the Rinse-Aid on about 20% setting
