Well, It's not a Dispensall, BUT... I Finally Found a Great old Machine. On Saturday , in the WORST Weather here in PA, I decided to check out the trailers in the back of Best Buy and Lowes. As soon as I approached the truck, I saw the familiar shape of an old GE Bachsplash with the chrome. I jumped up and found a beautiful early 70's model GE Filter FLO in White. It even has a Super Filter Flo Pan! It is in almost perfect cosmetic shape and though the water in the hoses and pump is frozen solid - it does sound like it will run. The only problem I saw was that the lid switch was rusted out and didn't engage anymore so- ultimately the machine probably filled and stopped. I over-rided the switch and it all sounds good. I will post pics when i take some. I'm VERY Excited! And by the way - Does anyone have a Mini-Basket for a straight vane agitator? Large capacity size? I'll gladly pay for it and the shipping! Let me know! Matthew |

Hey Matthew, Where have you been? I can check out the mini basket at a newly found appliance repair shop near where I work. Check the thread New Find Appliance repair shop under SUPER. I will get back to you when I find. Ray |

Congrats on your great find! What is a "Super Filter Flo pan" and how does it differ from a regular one? |

The Super Filter Flo is just a larger version which came with the Extra Large Capacity machines. They are 13" across. The older ones - like mine - had the GE logo in the center and the words Super Filter Flo in raised letters around the edge of the pan. There are also another style with a small detergent dispensing area around the center post. I'm looking for one of them to use. I'll show pics soon!

This Model is practically the same as the Dispensall without of course, the Dispensall feature. The Soak and other cycles are pretty much exactly the same. Can anyone estimate a year for this - I'm thinking Early 70's. Someone might know better....? (mose exact?) Was this the TOL or maybe just beneath it - I assume the TOL would have had a Lighted Console?

I'm very happy - now i just need to find a transmission - any suggestions? The whole machine is in great shape - barely any rust at all - and I bet whoever had this used it once a week and wiped it down when they were done because its in pretty nice shape! I know I'll have this for years to come and I look forward to them! Hopefully there are no hidden problems... WE shall see... Note that the Extra Rinse option is Engaged and ready to go! Matthew |

Nice blue agitator & fat blue filter. I would guess it to 1975 or less. |

Yes Kenny Please let me know If you have a Mini-Basket because I'm not sure when I'lll be able to find one around here. Austin - Thanks! This activator moves alot of water - I am familiar with the Sloped Activators also - If I find One I'll try it out! In the mean time - I need to try the belt issue. I know this mmachine is as early as 70-72. In 73 they introduced the black and orange/gold backsplash designs. This one- especially the timer looks like the late 60's design. |

Congrats Matt. The GE I am so in love with is just like this in many ways. It must be a mid 70's design, though. Everything from the toggle swtiches to the cycles are the same. My aunt's was the Americana with the console light. I can't begin to tell ya'll how many times she let me sit on the washer, at a very early age, and look down thru the Dispensall lid at the water shooting into the Filter pan (the actual Dispensing unit was removed). The only things that make it different, is the design of the console, more than likely a more recent model, and the Mini-Quick option was on the water level knob as Mini-Basket and then there was a switch to the left of the control knob to swtich the Mini-Quick option on or off. And I just love those big-ass straight vaned activators. Oh, and just for entertainment purposes, my mom informed me the other day that my first word was "agitator"....who knew? Good luck with your new machine :) Joel |

WEll, I changed the belt today and it runs great - thanks everyone for your help! Now I need help and advice on the outer tub's seal around the top cover. It leaks just over the inlet valve when it spins. The water splashing up bubbles over the top. Can I replace this and until then what do I do in the mean time? Thanks! Matt |

Versatronic and all fellow dumpster divers - Behind both Lowes and Best Buy is a Truck Trailer parked where they offload the old appliances they take out of houses they deliver to. Since I lost the Disppensall in December I've been obsessed with finding a machine. There are appliances coming in every day so in the evening after the deliveries have been made I would take a ride around the back of both stores - luckily they are both in the same shopping center - and check out the truck. There is ALOT of crap in these trucks and they really just throw stuff in there when they get them. They don't care because its just garbage to them. I have been snatching parts and things for a while now but on Saturday, I finally saw a machine worth taking. I went in and asked the guy in appliances if I could take it and he asked the guys in the warehouse in back. They said everything was up for grabs if I wanted it as they were just headed to the Dump. So, I went back around and moved the machine to the front of the truck so I could more easily offload it. The Delivery guy saw me and asked what I was up to and I simply told him I had asked inside and that I was taking the old machine to which he smiled and sarcastically said have fun! (Little did he know...) I was excited but getting it off of a 5 ft high platform of this truck was not going to be fun. The next day, My father and uncle and I brought my moms SUV down and we laid the machine on a blannket on its side and slowly slid it out and lowered it to the ground then put it in our truck. It was awkward but worth it. So there you go! - I still stop by in the evenings every so often to see what i find. But there are alot of old houses here and I know sooner or later alot of fun things will show up! I'm a GE Fan but If I see something worth grabbing you know I will and I'll tell you all on here if anyone wants to come get it! Good Luck and Have fun - but also be careful. The guys here were nice but I'm sure you've all experienced the strange looks and sometimes just plain nasty responses of people who think you are wasting their time. Let me know if you find any Dispensalls and I'll look out for the rest of you for anything fun! Just let me know whhere your interests lie... Matt |

OK, thanks for the info, Matthew. I don't think our local Best Buy actually sells appliances, but we have lots of Home Depots and Lowes. I'll be checking them out and see what I can come up with. |

Well thank God someone agrees with me about straight vaned agitators. :) But I have to give credit to the ramp vaned ones too.......they can move some wash. But let me correct myself on these straight vaned agitators....they work great with those older washers (Maytag, GE Filter Flo's, Whirlpool, etc)....not these "beat the crap out of my clothes till they are clean" washers. I don't care for ANY of the modern (post 90's) TL washers. Just not quality..... Just my opinion.

and let me just add to your comments guys by saying that I LOVE the activation and turnover of this agitator. I washed a Queen Size Comforter yesterday and it turned over nicely. My Moms Maytag never moved a comforter like that - plus the Filter Flo would always keep things wet where as the maytags agitator never really did much if there was something this big in it. I appreciate the ramed activators especially the sound thhey make but with this issue - I'm with the Straight vane fans! Matt |
