That Norge Dryer Is Beautiful!

rp2813's profile picture

My mom's '56 Norge dryer looked nothing like that.  Maybe it was older than I'm thinking?  It had the blue & gold scheme on the panel with red Time Line knob, and the big "N" badge on the front.

Thanks for letting me know.  I knew it had to be a member.  I've talked to Ted before, I just didn't realize he was the seller.

If that 800 series were the washer, I'd be there now... Even though not an exact match, it would look cool with my 70 series of the same era.  I like that early 60s design.  Then again that 1960 model is sweet too...

The Norge dryer is from 1958.

I thought of you, Rick, when I saw that dryer. I saw a 58 in gas at a sale some years ago now but they wouldn't let me buy it, they had a compmely irrational fear of gas and were scared to touch it.

Is that your daily driver, Ralph? Cool. :-)

Hi Greg, I have been working on the 58 Norge off and on since winter. Just got the end caps for the console back from the plating shop this week. Still a long road ahead, but it should be finished sometime this year. I think the 58 model is just beautiful. It is a good thing that I had the 56 Norge to use as a donor....

Kenny, remember the day we hauled those out of the junkyard? I wondered at the time if I was crazy, and I knew you thought I was...

Remember Rick, I'm the one who showed you the place to begin with, so, if anyone is crazy, it would be me!

norges and stuff

It's killing me to let go of some of these machines... but just like all of us, I have only so much space. I have had some machines stored away for years that I would love to be able to see every day and the only way to do that is to make some room in the house or garage.

If I just collected washers and dryers I would be fine, but my love for fridges, stoves, coin op, signs and 50's furn really makes it tough.
I need an airplane hangar:)

Maybe someone out there can tell me if I am wrong on this - but I have a 56 advertisment somewhere that shows that norge dryer being a 56 model - I think that they ran it for a couple few years and then it got bumped to BOL for 58. Because I have the 58 Norge TOL and it looks nothing like that - 58 was the dispensomat design with the high plexi dash.
Also of interest was the fact that they put out 2 different dash heights with the same design as the dryer I have listed.
I have a matching dryer and washer that I am keeping in the slightly shorter dash.
In either configuration though it's a really pretty design especially when lit.

It is a very lovely place. If I was closer, I would go for some of those appliances. I wish I had a basement to fill it with vintage appliances. Very nice place.
