Hi All,

I finally have joined the site, as a member.
I have looked on, for years, only as a public
observer.

I now finally have an appliance collection
again, after losing my first one(see my profile),
and am Really excited to be here.

I am in looking for a Matching Washer and Dryer,
1963 and Earlier, in Turquoise or Yellow(NO harvest gold please).
I am in the process of buying my first home,
so I do have some time.

I would appreciate any information on machines
for sale. I am in North Jersey and will travel
within reason, up to 4-6 hours if needed.

Thanks Everyone :)

Welcome to the club! I guess you can check the usual sites such as Craigslist and the Shoppers Square for appliances. I don't know how much vintage stuff in turquoise or Yellow you will find in Northern NJ as most people toss everyting out when they find old appliances. You may want to check estate sales too. Good Luck

Doug

As I am sure you already know from watching this site there is a lot of appliance knowledge here, It would be very helpful if you added a name to your profile [ make one up if you don't like your real name LOL ] but I know for myself and some others we generally will not answer questions of folks without a name to address you by. I look forward to your finding and using your dream appliances, John.

there is also a new section "Shoppers Square" for searching or selling and posting of vintage appliances.....

before you waste your time.....check your parameters, how much are you willing to spend, and of said appliance, it may need repair work and/or maintenance, plus traveling or shipping to get them to you...

you may find a great set....but be as far as California or Florida

check ebay as well

Welcome aboard!

The quest for vintage appliances can be fun and frustrating at the same time... It may be difficult to find a matched set from one seller - if you are patient, though, a matching pair may be assembled from different places. For example, I will be acquiring the matching turquoise dryer to my Lady Kenmore turquoise washer very soon - I got the washer first, then went on the hunt for the dryer. I got pure dumb lucky that I was able to find the dryer about a year after the washer!

Maytag and Kenmore washers and/or dryers in turquoise seem to be the ones that turn up. If a GE Filter-Flo set in turquoise shows up, though, beware... LOL

One search suggestion - if you can access a local paper in a vacation or summer home area, check the classifieds or place a 'wanted' ad. I've found a few appliances in 'cottage country' areas where the original owners had maintained the house like a time capsule and the new owners were anxious to rip it all out.

In the meantime, get a working washer and dryer - the search could take a while!

Good luck and let us know what you find!

miracles happen on this site, i can truly say! when i first joined i had a supreme interest in frigidaire rollermatic washers and kitchenaid dishwashers of the 17 series and below. i now have a houseful of kitchenaids and 6 rollermatics, some restored, some still patiently waiting!

just keep wishing, hoping, praying, you will be amazed at what will come your way!

As You Know....

....From being here on AW.org, you're embarking on a great adventure. As you scout around for machines, there are some things you should be thinking about:

1) The newest machines available in your desired colors would be - depending on make and model - 1966 or 1967 models. Support for such older machines is, at best, a little limited. Nothing made today shares any architecture with these oldies.

2) Support varies from brand to brand. Maytags have pretty darn decent support, if you manage to snag 1966 or later "New Generation" machines. GE's aren't terrible, though their filter pans and Mini-Baskets can make for a bit of a search. But Frigidaires can be challenging - GM kept changing mechanisms, parts can be hard to find for some, and they all work on a principle different from any other machine. You need to ask lots of questions here before you buy.

3) The model you buy can make a huge difference - certain models' parts can be very hard to come by. If you buy a Maytag 806 washer and need to replace the timer, it's not that huge a problem. If you buy a Maytag 906 and need a new timer, it's a whole different ball game - very hard to find. Same with detergent dispensers on upper-series Kenmores. Again, asking questions before purchase is a great idea.

4) The model year makes a difference. You can find control panel glass or a lint filter for a 1966 Maytag with some patient searching. A 1958 Maytag is a whole 'nother beast. Have I mentioned you should ask questions here first?

5) Your level of mechanical expertise, your available spare time and your willingness to get "down and dirty" with a machine are important. Try to estimate these factors honestly before you drag home a machine or machines.

I hope you'll have good luck. I know you'll have fun.

....A rule of thumb I find to be very true indeed:

The more a feature or piece of trim appeals to you, the more likely it's broken or missing, and the closer to impossible it is to replace!

Thanks for the tips Danemodsandy.

I know I'm new to the forum, and
I'm looking for a Turquoise or
Yellow Washer/Dryer, which are
pretty much wanted by many.

I've had a small collection prior,
until I had no choice put to part
with them to save them, and I know
I will get what I'm looking for again.
I'm very persistent:)

I have all my kitchen appliances
and now I really need my washer/dryer.

Hopefully, someone with a vast collection
will see fit to part with one pair at
some point.

Can't give up hope. I've succeeded
where other's failed with cars, vintage
tv's/audio, clothes, etc.

Thanks
