FINALLY I was able to get this beauty from Chicago!!! The seller was very nice and was trying to empty his grandmother's house for her as she had to be put in a retirement home. She is blind and apparently hated her automatic, so, it was used less than 10 times. The seller had just taken home grandma's washboard which she preferred very much to the washer. It makes sense since she had no way to see what was on the dial! You should see the tub and agitator, they are SOOOO shiny!!! The outside of the machine has some rust but it looks factory fresh under the skirt! I can't wait to get this machine cleaned up and going again! However, it will be a little while, I do start working at Whirlpool tomorrow after all! Here's the only pic I've got so far. I'll post a money shot when I can!

If they had bought a model with the buttons and lock stop dial, she would have been in business.

Nice machine!

My aunt is blind, and never had any problem using a Maytag A606 (in lovely Avocado). They marked the timer with tape where it started, she memorized the buttons, no problem.

Some more pictures and a correction...

pulsator's profile picture

... To the first one, not sure why my iPhone does that... (Robert, is this an issue with the mobile website?) I took the picture with my phone and it shows up the right way. When I first posted it the picture was correct then when I went back to this thread to see the responses the picture was the right orientation but squished. It continues to view that way on my iPhone but all other devices show the picture not squished but sideways...

Anyway, here is the picture rotated correctly!

Money shot!

Keep in mind I haven't cleaned it at ALL yet so there are dead bugs and gunk in the tub... Also, it appears some of the tub holes have begun to rust on the bottom. Cry

Anyone know how I could remedy this? The tub is otherwise in the best shape I've seen in a Kenmore/ Whirlpool machine next to Robert's new 1957 Lady Kenmore...

its MINT! Mint is best!!

I don't see the rust you speak of but with rubber gloves on ,and plenty of ventilation, a rag soaked in IRON OUT will dissolve any surface rust, don't leave on surface long it will etch porcelain, but one of my top favorites from Restaurant days is BARTENDERS FRIEND!!

Oh that is gorgeous. With less than 10 uses it is almost NIB; rust not withstanding. Good luck in cleaning her up and getting her running. This is a 1966 model 800, similar to the 1968 model you found a few years ago that had the Vari-Flex.

If I am to guess, this washer must have been given to the woman who owned it as a gift. Surely if she hated it, she did not buy it on her own. I am glad she kept it at least.

Have a good one,
James

Welcome! A very nice machine. Can't wait for some operational pics and video.

My iPad does that too. Either distorts the pic or turns it on its side. Looks ok on the device, ok on the message preview but as soon as its posted, wham. Hopefully, Robert will have some insight...

Funny someone last night just asked this same question on Vacuumland, even though this has been going on for years now. Many websites have this issue with iPhone and iPad photos, this isn't a bug on the websites. I've recently researched this and it appears until Apple releases a way for websites to read their image format properly there isn't much we can do. The only fix for this is to build a specific iPhone App like Facebook has, unfortunately that isn't something I can take on right now.

Congrats on that BEAUTIFUL machine though!!! And good luck today :-)

The combination of the turquoise porcelain, that shiny black Roto-Swirl Agitator with its personal massager-scrubber top with the measuring cup top and the dual dispensers make me weak in the knees. What a great find. God bless stubborn Grandmas everywhere.

my $0.01 observation

When I downloaded the 1st and 2nd pics to my cell -blackberry, was that they both loaded rightside up, thumbnail images and full screen too.

Which I thought was a little strange..
