The washer JasonL recently purchased, the new console-less WT1101, has just topped Consumer Reports' ratings for top-loading washers, with an overall score of 82. The price is $700.

Cleaning performance, water efficiency, energy efficiency, and capacity are all rated Excellent. Gentleness to fabrics is rated Very Good. I'm assuming the spin speed issue has been solved with this new model or the energy efficiency score would be lower. It's advertised at 1100 rpm.

It's one of the few top-loaders which combines an Excellent cleaning score with a Very Good gentleness score. My Frigidaire Immersion Care rates Excellent cleaning using the heaviest soil setting, resulting in a cycle time of 110 minutes, but is brutal to fabrics at that setting, with a gentleness rating of only Fair.

For an extra $100 you can step up to similarly-styled model 1201 that features WaveForce technology.

Boos and hisses: Neither model has an internal water heater. I was hoping the 1201 would have one.

This may have to be the new toy in the laundry room later this summer.

In true CR fashion, by this time next year this machine will be at the bottom of their rankings for one reason or another.

I remember how they loved the Neptune TL machines when they came out as well as the Calypso only to later change their tune.

If the spin speeds could go to 1100 RPM-could this machine SPIN-SPLODE?

If it can, I'm sure there will be a video of it very quickly.

lg

ok i have to get this off my chest.... consumer reports is full of nonsense!!!!!! this machine is almost EXACTLY the same as the model that explodes yet it is rated so much higher, also they tested a base model waveforce without the glass lid and it got a better rating for quietness!!!!?????? how is that possible????? the same machine yet base model is quieter????? and the lg scores higher than a harmony, ??????? yeah! lots of question marks there, ha! yet another example of anyhting foreign is top rated and anything american is junk with the exception of whirlpool, they used to favor whirlpool for a while, although they did rate the new ge top load a top cr pick which surprised me.

This is nothing. They had the nerve to say that a standard tub Maytag (in the early 60s, after the capacity wars were started by GE) held more than a Kenpool. They went so far as to say that it was less crowded with a 12 pound load than the Kenpool. These were the days when Maytag could do no wrong in the eyes or pages of Consumer Reports.

Calling Jasonl: If you're reading this, give us a review of your new LG washer now that you've lived with it for a couple of months. Would love to hear about its strengths, and if any, weaknesses.
