Hello all,

I've got a 96 ish Maytag Dependable Care washer and the motor won't come on, timer works, water works but no motor and no buzzing.

I tested it with an ohmmeter, thinking it was the lidswitch but I got all the way down to the motor and found power at the terminals to the little thing where the wires connect on the motor. Power was there but the motor is silent.

I can turn it by hand so its not stuck. Any ideas? I would hear a buzzing noise if it was the start capacitor right? Anyone had similar problems?

Thanks!
Steven

If it is two speed does it work on either?
Does it spin on either speed.(opposte direction of rotation)

The start winding may be at fault.
Dont recall if there is a start relay exteran to the motor.

If it fills and the timer starts to advance, but no motor at all, most likely the timer is at fault. If the lid switch were bad, you wouldn't get any timer advance; same for the water load size switch. You can direct test the motor, but you need a 4 wire test cord, can get a little tricky. You prolly have the quick disconnect timer. Make sure the plug -in blocks to the timer are tight and snapped in securely. If I can be of any more help, post it here.
