This is the set that was featured in the 1975 Christmas catalog, they were even Avocado. There were two near clone looking washers, one a large capacity, and the other a standard capacity with additional features.
Believe it or not, LOL, I have asked Justin to get 'em. We hope they're still there. Gordon |

Gordon, does "large" capacity mean the largest Kenmore offered, or was there another tub size even larger than on the subject machine?
I was going to peg the set at around 1975. The washer has the same knobs and some of the same cycle options as my mom's late '74 from further up the trim line with "Quiet Pak," the gold/orange scheme on the dial, and woodgrain side panels on the console. Hers had the skinniest belt/largest tub available. |

Ralph,
This machine is not the largest capacity, no. It is Kenmore's mid-weight capacity, and also an example of what nearly everything was sized as in Kenmore and Whirlpool in the 1960s except the few large tub specialty machines and the 24-inch machines. The 24-inch models were typically 17-gallon fill models, the standard capacity (this one) were generally but not 100% always 18-gallon fill (until shortly after the yellow EnergyGuide tags came out and they dropped full-fill by one gallon), and the large capacity were 25-26 gallon fill machines until 1981 when that changed with a re-design to 22 gallons. Your Mom's '74 was a 25-26 gallon fill model as was my Mom's '74 also. These knobs were around a long time. They debuted in 1972 on a couple plastic top models in chrome and in white. By 1974 nearly everything used them except the BOL and the Lady K. 1976-fall 1986 I think every stationary washer Kenmore sold had these knobs in white or chrome. They even came back for an encore in 1991-ish on Capri BOL washers. Gordon |
