Hi guys,

While visiting family around the UK, I stopped in at my great aunts house, which I have never visited before despite being local to where I used to live.

Stepping into her house was like stepping back into the 70's, it took me aback! Her kitchen is the best as all her cabinets and appliances are classic and retro. The most modern appliance in the kitchen is the kettle!

The focal point is the seemingly huge Bendix AutoWasher Deluxe sat next to the sink. Still in great condition, the rubber seal perfect and clean. The only tarnish is to the door just on the bottom. My great aunt told me it was a very popular and sought after brand back in its day and has never given her any trouble apart from once she never cleaned the filter and it wouldn't drain.

It was wonderful to see and I managed to snap a quick picture which also shows her cabinets and wonderfully retro green kitchen rug and door curtain.

Her cooker was a New World and looked to be from the same era as the washer.

Matt x

Aw wow, that is a great washer Matt, and a nice pic which you took to share with us all. I hope in time you can save it as they are rare.

Great machine! Looks like a TOL model too! Those were not cheap back then.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for sharing! Where abouts does your great Aunt live?

These were indeed quite a sought after machine at the time. Here's a quick video of Mrs. Lewis and her Bendix Automatic.

Out of interest, did you happen to spot an old vacuum about the place?

Chris

How FAB!

I hope you told her that if anything ever happened and she wanted to get rid of it, that she should contact you as you know a few folk who would happily take it rather than it go for scrap....

Bendix

Not sure if this is an Ebay listing of an AW member but my initial interest in the item for sale was diverted by the item in the background...................

Lino on the floor, or is it fitted carpet?

Looks a bit like a set from Last of the Summer Wine!

I saw that listing for the Electrolux 502 which would have been new in about 1976 but the dryer in the back ground would go well with Matty's Great Aunts washer :o)
