How much is a working set worth?

in reality....

without a pic of inside and out, unknown working condition, actual model or style, and work that may or may not need to be done.....and at the info of this very second, you have to consider something close to scrap and/or parts value...give or take 25.00 per machine...depending on price per pound, more or less, in your area...

GOOD ANSWER!

Great answer Martin and very true too!

Especially with the vague information the poster supplied.

Thanks Kevin.......people advertise and describe it thinking they have a gold mine, until you see and inspect it in person, and find out differently than as described....we have all been there and know what we come across, so yeah, we are what you would call the experts in these cases.....we seen good and bad....not everyone's case is like that, but we have seen it enough times....

note, that scrap value is only an estimate of what you could possibly get if YOU take it to the scrap yard yourself.....for anyone else to pick it up and take it there, factor in time, effort, gas, and wear on vehicle...most scrappers will only give you 5.00 to 10.00, TOPS!

Here in my area scrappers WILL NOT pay you for anything they pick up.   I tried advertising a machine for $5 because I wanted to give it away, but didn't want a scrapper to come pick it up.    The response?  Crickets.

However, within 5 minutes of posting it for free... I've got 15 people calling me saying "I can be there right away to pick it up!"

OK, here's some more info. I was looking for some parts for my washing machine (specifically a new water pump), and googled images "Kenmore 800". It led me to this thread from 2004 on this site:

www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T...

Now, I'm not necessarily interested in selling my washer/dryer set; they work fine and I use them at least two to three times a week.

Here's a couple of pictures.

Oops. Picture four posted twice.

But here's the rub. You guys just told me that my set is junk, but NINE YEARS AGO, folks on this site were gushing about how valuable they are.

Which is it?

Here's another picture I took JUST NOW.

Value is what ever someone is willing to pay for it. Someone might have to have them at any cost, and might offer you upwards of $1000.00. Someone else might not give a rip about them, and say they're worth less than $50.00 for the set. You have to admit, with your first post, with NO information given, the above answers is what most around here would say. Adding pictures, giving some info, like saying they're used weekly, changes things significantly.

Pump for that washer should be readily available, either from Whirlpool, or on EBay.

My advice is given freely, value accordingly.

Yes, they're not perfect... they're over 40 years old, but still soldiering on. I got them second-(third-? fourth-?...)hand in 1992. I was stationed at Fort Knox with a new wife and baby, needed a washer and dryer, saw an ad in the post newspaper from a couple that was getting stationed in Germany and didn't want to ship it overseas, and I bought the set for $150 THEN.

Because the set was WORKING.

The set still works.

Already got the new pump, installed it yesterday. Everything works as advertised.

I get it that "value is whatever someone is willing to pay"...

Basically, I was curious because of the old thread.

no insult intended.....

NOW thats what were talking about.....add into your original post of your machines and model numbers, and the inquiry of looking for a pump with attached pics....and YES, you would have gotten a different reply....

we are here to help in any way we can....but we have to go on with what info is given...they are a beautiful set as shown....and you will probably get many more years of great service from them compared to whats on the market today.....

in the future, many of our members have stashes of used and/or new parts, that are NLA(no longer available)that may fit your machine.....they can't help if they don't know what you need or are looking for...not being nasty here, just offering some helpful advice.....we can help you keep your machines running top dollar for as long as you wish to keep them....

a little spit shine and polish will keep these beauties looking great for a long time.....

Well, it was midnight here when I posted the original question, and I hadn't taken the pictures as of then...

P.S. I also own a 1965 Corvair Corsa Convertible...

I had a Corsa while I was in college. Great little cars. Have you had the dip tube seal mod done on it yet?

Post# 698302 , Reply# 20   8/22/2013 at 23:04 (3,891 days old) by GearHedEd ()

No. Is that why oil spews out of my dipstick tube when running the car?

Post# 698304 , Reply# 21   8/22/2013 at 23:06 (3,891 days old) by GearHedEd ()

P.S....

The car is unrestored, almost original, numbers matching. Was originally painted "evening orchid", a 1965 only rare color on a rare model.

I can't imagine why anyone would want an older Kenmore set anyway.

Then I suppose you are on the wrong website!

Or do you have something you have against Kenmore?
