So? That control panel looks like the $99 special that George's and Luskin's in the DC area used to sell, althought with three cycles, it might have gone for a little more. The stench of WCI is all over it.

Scary!

Notice that it says "Heavy Duty" in quotes. When they put quotes around something that should be a flat statement, you need to watch out.

Heavy Duty in quotes

I think that is just flourishes on the H and the Y.

It does remind me of a friend who worked in a seafood restaurant. The manager wanted to put TRY OUR "FRESH" SHRIMP on a portable sign to drum up business. My friend had a terrible time talking him out of it.

Honey, I Blew Up the Picture!

And you're right - it is those idiotic Ye Olde Englishhe flourishes on the "H" and "Y." That nonsense got very popular around 1968 and hung around for years. Glad it's gone.

However, I still find the photo scary - when you consider WCI's concept of quality, you have to wonder what on Earth could they have meant by "Heavy Duty" - a slightly better grade of spit and chewing gum?

WCI Kelvinator washer

I've seen these machines and they are actually pretty interesting. The angel-wing agitators were 'meh' but they were worth staring into for a cycle or two.

There was an ad for Kelvinator & Tide, that featured a very TOL harvest gold Kelvinator washer... (My sister unfortunately cut up part of th washer in the ad, getting a brownie recipe of the back page behind it...!)

Of which a friend of mine had an avocado TOL one just like it, set off to the side of the basement, obviously not used; his mom had a newer (though not as high-endy) Whirlpool set...

Ah, the good old days.

I actually really miss that machine--if I knew what a hen's tooth it was, I would have hung onto it!
