As I have written on at least two posts now I replaced the transmission and tub seal/bearing kit on my norgetag in early July and it is making a sound in the spin cycle as though a bearing is going already! Last time I posted about it it was just making a little (hardly noticeable) scratchy rumbling noise but like I said it was barely noticeable, it really could only be heard with the lid open. Now the noise has changed to knocking! During the spin cycle on both speeds it makes a continuous fast paced clunking/knocking noise as the spin gets faster (supposedly emanating from the bearing). The strange thing is it only makes the noise when there is clothes in the washer, start up the spin cycle on full speed without any clothes and its silent!!!

The reason im so scared the bearing is going already is because all of this started after I washed a dirty mat with allot of muddy dirt on it and after the noise started I thought uh oh some of the dirt must have made its way into the bearing! I have almost never heard of bearings failing in under 3 years in a norgetag, it was another story with amanatags but I would like to know if its possible the seal and bearing are not going out but are just noisy for some reason? is that at all a possibility that they could be fine?

I can't see why the bearing would be making this noise after 2 months of light use and what it is hitting against to make the knocking noise but I would just like to know if this is a sure fire warning sign that the bearing IS on its way out or if it could continue on making the noise for a few years without ruining the seal?

Whats the story behind bad bearings ruining tub seals anyway? I have had a real Norge washer that was 16 years old and had the tub bearing go bad and it was really noisy but I kept using it for at least 6 months until the motor died and it could have lasted god knows how much longer if the motor had not died even with the bad tub bearing but my question is, why does everyone seem to mention the seals going out around the same time as the bearings in norge/amana-tag washers?, why would the bearing and seal go out at the same time? that doesn't make sense to me....I know its a rather flimsy Styrofoam type seal on norge-tag washers but still, why do they both go out around the same time?

Anyway, im gonna just keep using the slow 417 RPM spin speed to try and keep it working as long as I can, I don't have another $300 to waste. I don't really mind the slow spin anyway, just means the clothes need longer drying. But damn I really wish I didn't fix that thing right about now!
