Further to the thread about the unusual washer seen on the Austrian classified ads site, I had a look for anything else of interest and found this Miele spinner. I am on the lookout for a spin dryer but will probably find one nearer to home.

These were used in laundromats.

A-B-C-D bolt holes? Definitely the industrial version.

Do any of the numbers on the rating plate refer to the spin speed? It looks like the motor is on the side so it is probably belt driven rather than direct drive.

Drehzahl (rpm): 1400

Thanks Louis, so it is fairly slow for a spin dryer. It would still by nice to have but not as useful as a faster spinner.

It does quite well because the drum is much wider than a household spinner. Besides, the Miele laundromat machines didn't spin very fast. Spinning the laundry in such spinners took a lot of water out of the laundry before drying them in the big gas dryers.

True That

Bock extractors do not spin *that* fast either. Well not anything >2000rpms anyway.

Wow, perhaps I should buy the Miele and get it shipped to the States if they are charging $4000 for a new commercial spinner there.

Best argument for high speed extraction

launderess's profile picture
"You can take an entire load of heavy towels and jeans out of a 30lb. washer and put it in one of my Bock extractors and then put it in one Huebsh dryer and the entire load will dry in less than 14 minutes! A regular hard mount washer generates about 85 G's with a spin of 510rpm. But a 35lb. Bock extractor generates nearly 800 G's and spins at 1725 rpm! After you take out jeans and towels from a washer it has about
55% water retention. But after just a 3 minute spin in a Bock extractor the cloths hold barely 20% water. So if you put a load of jeans and towels in a dryer that is 55% full of water then for the first thirty minutes that burner is on nealry constant.
But when you take a load of jeans and towels out of a bock ectractor with barely 20% water content in the cloths then for the first few minutes the burner is on as it reaches the high temperture quickly and the residual water in the cloths is heated, turned into vapor and expelled out the duct."

You Can Find Bock Extractors On fleaPay

And other sources for used commercial laundry equipment.

Aside from a more robust build and larger capacity any of the standard domestic spin dryers will do.

That being said one tends to prefer older domestic spin dryers without braking systems. The newer ones make so much racket when ramping up and down due the plastic bits inside that are part of the locking system.

If you are really lucky some eBay sellers will ship spinners from Europe to this side of the pond. Your only worry then would be the difference in voltage and frequency. If you have a 220v outlet then that problem is solved, long as you change the plug. Depending upon how old the unit is it may or may not be bothered by the ten percent difference in frequency.

Contacted seller!

I emailed the seller of the spinner:

Hi there,

My apologies for contacting you in English but I don't speak
German. I am from UK but living in western Hungary. I really like
the spinner but could you tell me the approximate dimensions so
I can check whether it would fit in my car?

Many thanks,

Phil

Today I received his reply:

"%#@$ YOU"

I'd Report Him To eBay Germany

Sending along a copy of both emails, your message to him and the response.

There is no call for such behavior period. Personally would be inclined to let loose with a nice response in German, but then again it never pays to stoop to gutter level.

Of course you're right FA. But you have to admit, that response was extraordinarily abrupt.

Well there's equipment sales and then there's soccer where manslaughter is not considered out of line. Here we rather limit it to felony assault (hockey) and the occasional crazy with an AR-15 (DC). BTW, our DC gunman last lived and worked 3 miles north of my location. Even certain public trans won't go to White Settlement where that restaurant is.

They call this the 'metro' but depending exactly where you're talking about it's the 'ghettro'. 3 years ago the Dallas police chief's son killed 2 cops and was in turn killed. Got anything like that in Euroland? I mean, besides soccer.

Best not to turn this into a discussion of US gun laws, just too controversial for a site like this.

Seriously, I lived in that country for 11 years and experienced plenty of that sort of thing, especially directed at people from English-speaking countries.

Maybe he just didn't like people that live in Hungary. Maybe he has something against English, though there are translator programs. Maybe he liked your profile, and it was an invite. Maybe he was a big-o-meanie and you don't want to do business with him anyway.

"Gun laws" are irrelevant. You can't legislate crazy.

Broadbent extractors are good, if you can get hold of one. The launderettes in a city near me have them, and they are touching 40+ yr old. Not sure on the spin speed. The Rex (Zanussi) washers only spin at 400rpm, so putting your wash through the spinner is a must. The 35 yr okd Huebsch/Loadstar dryers will take forever. And lits of 20p's!

Post# 704633 , Reply# 26   9/22/2013 at 14:04 (3,867 days old) by fido ()

Launderettes in UK probably struggle to survive these days so I suppose they keep the equipment going as long as they can. At one time people would take their large items to the launderette but most have the larger capacity washers now.
