What year machine or time period are you looking for?, Mark 12s were made from about 1958-1975, they were WPs version of the Sears Lady Kenmore's although they looked very different but often had similar features.

Imperial Mark XII became Imperial Mark 18 for the last couple model years, as I recall.  Some of the electronic units were labeled Solid State Mark Series.

A 1968 WP Mark XII set with the lovely *cough* factory installed wood paneling on the front!   The dryer also features the very unique 2-way "station wagon tailgate" door.

Awesome

They look so cool with that deep angle on the control panel.  Seems like it would be fitting to a Star Trek-y like console

Tumble speed selector?

Is that what I am reading on the dryer in the last post? If so, that is awesome! Never have I seen that before! Please show a demonstration!!

Tumble Speeds

Yes, Whirlpool offered multiple tumble speeds on top-of-the-line and near-top-of-the-line models for a few years.

The motor had a cone-shaped pulley and a wide idler pulley.  The mechanical shift mechanism positioned the belt to different diameter areas of the pulley for the available speeds.  Instructions advised not to change the speed unless the dryer was running -- press Start first to get it going, then set the speed.

Three speeds were available:
- Fastest speed for large or bulky items such as sheets and blankets
- Medium speed for "normal" items
- Low speed for light-weight delicates

It was reduced to two speeds for the last year the feature was offered (the LDA-9800 series which is the gold pair in Reply #3).

The avocado dryer in Reply #6 is a 1974 LAE-8800, one step below top-of-line, still had 3 speeds.  LAE-9800 would been the top-of-line for 1974, also had 3 speeds.

Note that the tumble speed selector is a different thing from earlier dryers that offered two drying speeds via a rotary control, usually labeled Super & Gentle.  The drying speed control did not affect tumble speed, it changed the airflow rate via either shifting the blower belt on a dual pulley or a damper door in the exhaust (when the design was changed to a direct-drive blower).

10 cycles plus a pre-wash or extra rinse. The final button above the dial, unlabeled, would be for the suds models. That piece of tape #2 is for cycle 2, my favorite, because the button for it is slightly stuck, and I do NOT want to get into the pushbutton assembly. All the other buttons work perfectly, just #2 kind of slips past its stop, so knowing where to find it makes for a perfect cycle.

That 1968 set is a hoot! Didn't Jamie (Pulsator) have the dryer at one point?

The set designer for The Brady Bunch missed a great bet by not giving Alice one of these sets to use!

mine. I like the way your light goes all the way across the panel. By the time 66 rolled in, they kept the module in the dark, and when the panel is lit, it's hard tp read the small cycle selection graphics.

Any time you want to divest yourself of that beautiful 1968 WP Mark XII set I'll be more than happy to help you find them a new home. Innocent

Tim,

I would happy to take you up on your offer, however they went to another home just over a year ago, sorry.

I do still have that beautiful harvest gold Mark 18 set.   Both the washer & dryer need some repairs.   After that's done, they will be looking for a new home.

Kevin
