I'm new to this forum and have a question about my KDS-17A DW. Two days ago, after starting a routine wash cycle, I noticed, after about 3 minutes, some nasty smelling smoke rising from the upper and lower parts of the door. When I immediately turned it off and opened the door, I noticed the normally spinning arm on the bottom was completely still. The smell prevailed for over 8 hours in my kitchen. I'm wondering if the motor is now needing to be replaced since, to my knowledge, it has never been replaced in its history. Can anyone tell me where to locate a motor for this and perhaps a service manual that would help my husband replace it?

Thank you ~ Ruth

Buyer Beware!

Sorry to disappoint you, but this motor is not for a KD-17 series pump. It is for a series 18,19 or 20 pump and will not work in your 17. Besides, it is missing the cooling fan the sits over the holes that are on the top of the motor housing. The fans break after a number of years and are not available as a separate item.

You can purchase a motor that will fit on your machine. Thre same motor will fit the 15,16 and 17 series dishwashers. Keep an eye on Ebay or maybe a member here may have one to sell you.The shaft seal and drain impeller assembly is still availble from Hobart under part number 117011. List price is 34.45 and should be
available from your local Hobart office.

Smoking KDS-17

I would suggest finding out what is smoking, the motor is only one of roughly 50 possible reasons why your DW was smoking, Keep us posted on what you find and I will be glad to help.

Back online

Thanks All, so much for your help. I'll keep you posted when my husband can trouble shoot the smoking. I've been swamped this week, albeit I'm ready for a functioning dw.
