I found the information in the recent thread Speed Queen the Only "Sane" Modern Washer Left? in the Deluxe forum interesting. One thing stated about the SQ was how it didnt have a board with electronic controls which is a plus.
Recently I was in Home Depot and took the opportunity to check out the appliances. I paid particular attention to the GE TL washers and found this GE for $498.00. What caught my eye was that it appeared to have non-electronic controls like the SQ. I was impressed by the SS tub. Only thing I found disappointing was it didnt have a soak cycle which the more upscale model, $150.00 more, next to it did have. Our current 2003 GE has the soak 30 min - 15 min feature which I like having. The more expensive model had a row of indicator lights above the timer. It also had an off button to the right of the timer. Seeing those lights gave me the impression it might be better to go with the cheaper one? |

the outer tub is plastic. That agitator is the twin to my circa 1999 Profile agitator. |

a bad thing? Our 2003 GE has plastic inner and outer tubs. Cant find any fault with them during the time we've had it. My sister bought a new Maytag about five years ago. She never liked it for more than one reason. She always mentioned it didnt spin dry the clothes as well as the GE did.
One thing I noticed about the Maytag was how, after just a couple years, rust started to form around some of the tub holes. IMO this was a result of the porcelain on the tub being of such poor quality compared to older models. I installed a new timer in her circa 1995 GE and put that back into service and the Maytag was retired. |
