Well, I decided it was time for something new (to me.) So I took my trusty hacksaw and began creating (or destroying?) Anyway, I ended up with this:

Jamie, I"m an equal opportunity frustration giver. Remember, Robert wanted to take a hack-saw to his 1960 or 1961 Frigidaire top rack to make it more accommodating for his pots? And I told him I thought one was supposed to preserve the integrity of a classic/vintage machine with original looking as possible? Well, I'm glad you had fun. But you have destroyed a wonderful agitator on a classic Maytag. And to me, this action is even worse now because of what will most likely happen to Maytag if/when the Whirlpool acquisiton goes through. And those Turqoise agitators don't grow on trees anymore. If you had to have hacked at an agitator, why not have done it one an agitattor that didn't have a filter cartridge like this one had.

Very fun!!! And there's good action with the small tub that closely resembles an impeller machine...

Interesting-from an agitator to --an impeller!!

I think this was an interesting mod-I am sure there is still going to be plenty of turquoise and similar Maytag agitators for Applianceville folks to experiment with. The swap shop out here saves various washer agitators.I don't think they will disappear overnight.Maytag owners may want to get a few spares just in case--or for experiments.

Hi Jamie:

do you remember when I posted sometime ago about doing the same thing? It is a lot of fun and good turnover too.

I always thought of doing this to my moms! I don't think she would have gone for iit though!

I like that you put a cap on it. Nice work!

And don't worry about not finding another Turquoise Agitator - there are still plenty of them out there because maytags last so long - well, the originals anyway.

I understand Appnut's cause though as I too am a purist when it comes to such things. I don't think I'd amputate my GE - but then again - never say never!

Have fun!

Matt

While aqua Power Fins don't grow on trees, there are plenty of them behind any appliance store. Have fun!

Hi Jamie, how COOL! I love it, it looks like a combination Maytag and GE Harmony. Hacksaws can be fun!

Now I'm off to cut the naughty extra tines off that silly top rack in that '61 Frigidaire DW.

That looks like fun - ideal for those hard-to-wash bulky items. Power fins do seem to grown on trees around here, I tossed out one from the mid-80's Saturday, it even had the original washer still attached! Have a great time with it, Jamie.

I wonder how well a cordless "saw-zall"would do on agitator "surgery"?I would think a Dremel tool would be helpful in cutting the "angel wing" blades off the barrel of the Maytag agitator discussed in another topic.
