try a search on e-bay for one, or try CL they pop up quite frequently all over the place. You could possibly get lucky there. |

well.....this may fit the bill as far as its a Kenmore, VisiMatic in fact, two speed, timer and manual operation, and with a pump....full skirt at that...at 75.00 better yet.....
BUT, you may have to travel a bit.....and that seems to be your demise....you have to travel to find what your looking for or have it shipped....in either case seems this what is comes down to, and costing one way or another....sorry CLICK HERE TO GO TO Yogitunes's LINK on Lancaster Craigslist |

I had known several months back, the antique mall in Winston Salem had a beautiful Square Tub Maytag, one of the last ones they built and it was like new for 179.00, I want a Norge myself! |

well, there is an option of sorts....not exactly a wringer....but I have used a regular automatic machine, and installed a switch in the line for the timer's motor, pausing it to allow it to wash for any amount of time, and then when ready, a flip of the button allowed the machine to continue with it's cycle....kinda of a semi-automatic
saves you from hand wringing all the clothes, with the exception of not being able to reuse the water...some pros and cons just a thought.... |

Looks to be about a 58, considering the faucet and the "in -lid" filter. Rare control with the quintessentially vintage "K" on the dial, and a knob rather than a switch for the speed control. Very pretty. Nice condition for a 56 year old Lady. So used to seeing chrome on the wringer, this pink is a quite fetching. Wish it were closer for you. Jackie would bring it to you for $250 or less. |

the wringer is opened across the top, with the exception to that safety release bar....
I remember using one once, and instructed to pour some water over top of the wringers between wash and rinse, to flush away the suds... that roro-swirl washes like no other...theres just something about it compared to most straight vane agitators, that seems to do a better job....even two speeds were not all that common among wringers for the most part... and very few wringers offered a lint filter of some sort.... for as nice as this machine is...I think it would be worth the trip...or at least inquire about it... I think MickeyD has a video of his in motion.... |

Nor of a chance to show her off. There was another inquiry about this wringer, and others like it, being broken because of the floppy latch. On those models that's how the wringer looks in the "Release" mode, a good sign actually, since it suggests the rollers may have been released all these years, and should therefore be preserved and functional. Some wringers in the release mode look truly tragic and really broken.

A friend of mine in Baltimore has a mint square tub Maytag. His mom bought it to replace her old broken down Thor wringer. Aftrr just two loads, she decided to get an automatic. She put a plastic blanket over the Maytag and it's sat there in a cool, dry basement. I saw it and tried it out. Everything was intact and even though it wasn't used since 1973, it purred like a lost kitten found by a loving passer by. I wanted to have it shipped here but too expensive to justify the cost. I dont have his phone number but do know how to get there. I need to get his PH# and let him know somebodys interested . He told me if I wanted it, just come to get it. It is in brand new condition. No rust, no oil leaks. His mom removed the agitator off the post and laid it sideways. That's how it was when I first looked at it. I put it back on then ran it .Great wringer washer.

I always wanted an old Kenmore wringer, not even a Visi-Matic, but just like my mother had and I wrecked with my toy trucks that needed to be washed. Would rather have a toy washer than trucks but we know the story. Hers had the drain on the side of the tub. Did have a pump. Settled for a Maytag round wringer which is fine and use it a few times a year. Hopeing to put it in my storage building with water and power in the spring, if it ever gets here.

The Whirlpool version has a cooler, less weird, "more normal" --whatever THAT is, LOL !-- moniker than the Kenmore Visimatic: It's called the Whirlpool Surgomatic, and indeed has a Surgilator. Have only seen one or two pix, never in the flesh, and forget exactly what the wringer is like, although it is open like the Visi; also, the machine is full-skirted with bells and whistles similar to the Visi's.
If anyone can find a pic or if Jim can get us a pic of the one in Oneida, that would be wonderful. No one in the club has one or even had one, as far as this Wringer Man knows. Please come forth if otherwise.
May I show you fellow wringer dudes what I did to my Maytag a few weeks back, without starting a new thread? |

Looks like a st8 vane agibitator to me. The date is wrong on these pics. They were taken late fall of 13. Jim |

WOW ! Twins ! -- maybe not identical, but definitely fraternal. It's a Surgilator, although the lighting and the angle obscure the true glory.
The panel is a bit narrower. Betting that they ( the wringers) came in chrome on the TOL.
Thanks, Jim. Be nice if at some point we could get a close-up of the control panel.
I'll get the Maytag Mod pix up tomorrow.
Interesting that the control panels are more stream-lined, in the same way that the Mark 12's are more reserved and understated than the Lady K's. Consistency of Design. |
