What's going on in Cleburne that I'm missing. An AMP one day & a copperton matched KIenmore set the next. I can just see me putting these on Amtrak lol, plus I'd have to spend the night for the return trip. lol

I couldn't resist!

Ok, I fess up! Next to Poppy Red, my fav appliance colour is Coppertone, so I impulsively purchased this set. I would really like to switch out the Maytag dependable care and Kenmore Elite gas dryer for these beauties in the laundry room (at least for a while). Now, I'm going to have to convince Austin that these will not immediately be going to the laundry studio. ;-)

Venus :-D

Yay!!

Coppertone seems to be migrating in this general direction.

Thanks everyone! I thought those chrome-face panels were nonexistant, and then I saw these; first on Craigslist and then on eBay with an irresistable Buy-It-Now price...and in Coppertone no less!! Mom's exact words when I pulled these up were "Buy them NOW!" Since the dryer is gas, Mom insists on trying them out in the laundry room for a short period of time, then the washer at least is going down to the Studio. Judging by my experience with using a belt-drive Kenmore, they probably won't last long in the laundry room before *someone* wants the modern pair back!! The only thing that puzzles me is what we're going to do with the current '03 Maytag and '02 Kenmore dryer during this time...and I certainly don't have room down in my shed, especially for modern machines!

The panel on the washer appears to be a bit worn around the timer dial and water level/temperature controls. For now, I'm going to leave it the way it is, but when it comes time for Studio use, I'm going to switch the control panel to the vertical sliding-panel console salvaged from the Avocado machine (you can bet I'll be keeping the chrome console)! It won't be another Frankenmore since I'm just switching out the controls, not the entire top panel like I did with the '82. One last thing though: did the sliding-panel "Silhouette" machine come in Coppertone? ;-)

Mad Scientist

Austin, you're the MAD SCIENTIST of Applianceville. Switching panels and guts and everything.

Kinda reminds me of the VW community. A Bug is a Bug, right? Not always, but my 64 Bug had 68 engine/transmission. The different years were most times interchangeable. Actually, in the Bug world there's 49-52, 53-57, 58-64, 65-67, and here's the kicker, 68-78, 78-2003(Mexico). And boy was I heartbroken when they stopped producing them down there in Mex :-( , the same heartbreak when Kenmore dropped Belt-Drive in the 80s.

You go Texas Kenmore family! Good idea for that panel, Austin - your sliding-panel will look great on this machine. I've seen a coppertone set a few years back at a sale so they were available, perhaps others will remember from the POD of this machine too.

For the modern set, put them out in the yard. The neighbors will be jealous, as mine have been when I've had appliances outside. They get so jealous in fact, sometimes they'll even ask you to move them so they don't have to be constantly reminded of their sinful, coveting nature. This also works for other appliances, couches, overstuffed chairs, vehicles with no wheels and stained bedding.

Austin and Venus - this rocks! Yet another Coppertone set saved! If I've kept count on track, that makes 4 sets saved this year. Awesome!

Greg - you can't forget that the neighbors also love various Trans-Camaro's in various stages of disrepair scattered about the lawn as well. Heck - the birds and other small creatures love them!

Austin, I thought you giving me the 67 green machine. That's ok, though. That chrome panel will make that copper machine rock. Not to mention another machine with the famous Kenmore Kool Down.

Hi Jason,

That '68, while pretty on the outside, also had some pretty serious problems. Apart from a "hard-ridden" mechanism, I pulled the tub, and saw something I didn't catch at first: the spin/agitate driveshaft misaligned the spin tube/centerpost by at least 1/8".

That doesn't mean I'm not going to have an extra BD Kenmore with this new acquisition though...;-)

Ahhhh I see. Well, let's let that green monster rest in pieces and let's see what the mad scientist of Bellville has up his sleeve.

My parents are building me a cottage in the back and I'll make sure there are 2 washer hookups in the utility room just for that special belt drive Kenmore. So it will look like this.. Kenmore, F&P washer, F&P t/l dryer. Now THAT's a laundry room!
