I will admit that I'm totally amazed at the condition of this frig. It looks like it came right from the showroom floor.

Now as far as that price goes- welllllllllllll.....this seller is playing with a deck of cards that has too many jokers in it and one of them found it's way into the seller's brain.

Maybe not insane but instead hoping to get lucky that someone with deep pockets might want it. How many multi-millionares are there in the USA that 11 grand is nothing more than pocket change? Plenty. You can always try I suppose.

If I had

That much money, I wouldnt pay that for any fridge...I could go to John Jowers place in Georgia and buy a completely restored fridge for less than 1/2 of that!!

This fridge ...

... is absolutely immaculate.

$16,000 might be a bit steep, but consider that as part of a $60,000 kitchen renovation, might very well be within many people's budgets -- if that's what they're looking for.

This person better be willing to negotiate, because outside of a wealthy collector, I doubt anybody would be delirious enough to pay $16 grand for it. I'll admit it is pristine and I love the style, but the price may be even too rich for a blue blood.

I doubt that very many "young people" or the people they would hire would know how to cope with a refrigerator-freezer that needs periodic defrosting.

Even $1000.00 is verging on dreamland as a price for this box.

He says it's a 1952 model and is "72 years old." Hmm.

I can see myself cleaning one of those Philcos for resale and putting it out on the sales floor. In the morning the then owner of Western Appliance (mid 1960's) Mr. Niederaur would arrive, walk through the warehouse entrance, thru the service department and out onto the resale floor which was in the back of the store. He'd take his "grease pencil" and price anything that was "new." All of the trade-in stuff (and there was tons of it) was individually tagged regardless of what it was or it's condition. The delivery people wrote the amount allowed for the trade-in on the back of the tag. I rarely saw anything more than $25. I can see Mr. Niederaur writing $79.50 on a Philco like that, maybe less.

For 16K----That box should be a NEW one in the crate-no cleaning rag or sponge needed-but--If he expects me to pay 16 grand for the thing-HE should push the rag or sponge and clean it!!!!!For 16 K--the thing should be SPOTLESS!!!!!!He needs to go back to whatever he's been smokin!!!!

Was that the same seller who was trying to sell a Kirby for 16K or something like that?

Not to distract from the Philco...

...and start a thread on ridiculous prices, but this Clairtone Stereo is currently listed on ebay. The last one of these I saw sold on ebay had banged-up speaker spheres and went for $9,000. This one is supposedly in better shape and has a BIN price of $23,500.

and obviously this is not an actual photo (sorry, I couldn't reduce the size?)
