Miele W1918: In doing my usual maintenance cleaning the detergent dispenser compartment, my hand inadvertently pushed off a small (about ½ “) plastic piece of trim from the compartment into the inlet hose right underneath that leads to the drum area.

I ran the machine and found that it properly fills the drum and drains water thoroughly. However, during the spin cycle, there is a very loud banging noise – leading me to think that the plastic piece is somehow lodged around/within the drum area.

Upon inspection after opening the door, I was able to replicate the banging noise by turning the drum by hand. After a few more turns/counter-turns, the piece dislodged and the banging stopped.

I then tried running the machine again, and even though it filled and drained properly, the banging returned at the spin cycle.

Any idea on how to open up the drum/assembly and remove the errand piece? Or should I be exploring another solution?

It is a 10-yr old machine that has been running flawlessly since day one. Used every day – sometimes multiple times/day.

Unlike Some Other European Washers Like Certain Oko-AEG

Lavamats there is no way to get between the tubs of a Miele to fetch an errant item. The other models mentioned allow for the removal of one or more paddles so you can gain access to the area between inner and outer tub.

If the piece is small enough it may eventually work it's way down to the sump where the "detergent ball) that blocks the drain hose from tub while machine is filled with water may or may not keep it from reaching the filter. If by some means the thing does reach the filter then it should be an easy matter to get it out.

Other than that only thing one can think of that the tub assembly will have to come out. That is the only way one believes the tubs can be separated. It is quite a lot of work IMHO.

Pity you simply didn't open the front of the machine at the time and disconnect the hose leading from the dispenser to tubs. That would have allowed you to fetch out the bit before it got down between the tub.

Had a simmilar Problem with our old Miele W961 which has the same base (I think). Your washer should have the service door design. If you open the door, there should be 3 bolts. Remove them. Than there should be several screws arround the drawer. Remove them further. Than, open the drain pump door. There is the small black pipe for draining the water. Declip the plastic front peace out of its mounting. Now, you should be abled to swing the whole front to the right like a normal hinged door. If not, there should be 2 more screws, one in each side of the control pannel under 2 plastic caps. Remove them either. The door seal should be simply foldable to the back.
Than, first check the pipe on the left of the tub up the dispenser. The pipe should be black and flexible. At the mounting peace pipe to tub, you should be abled to remove it. Check first if it caught up in there. Removing the tub is way more work!
