Here is my latest acquistion. Got this beauty in Phoenix over the weekend but first have to change electric cord before I can plug it in. It is 1950 Kenmore and I hope to have it ready for Tucson Wash In end of March.

Hi Ross, Congrats

Was this really so light that it needed to be bolted down??

I would have thought all that porcelain would have weighed as much as todays plastic tranny machines!!

Not long to the wash-in for this to be used??

Cheers, Mike

Congrats on the new addition to your washer collection, I love the large opening on that washer - you'll see it all now!

Great find Ross. Is this a fully automatic machine or semi?

Nice picture, Ross!

Yes, this machine is delightfully cute and compact. It appears to be fully automatic, but we're working on replacing the cord so we can find out. At first blush, it appears to have a timed fill, which is very intriguing for a perforated-tub Kenmore.

Congratulations Ross! What a neat machine, it brings back lots of good memories for me. Our next door neighbor had that machine and it was always a favorite. Terry

Timed fill is normal----my "Frog-Eye" even has a timed fill. I think the early Kenmore's had to be bolted down because they lacked a suspension system. I'm sure someone will correct me if this theory incorrect, but it would seem to make sense to me.

WOOHOO!!! CONGRATULATIONS Ross on an awesome machine...and in beautiful shape too! Keep us posted on the condition!

One of the reasons I think these bolt-down Kenmores are cool is that the elimination of a suspension system allows the tub opening to be completely round...no more loading frustration and you can see the action all around the tub on a full load! ;-)

What a find! Is that the original agitator? I like that it has a removable lid, ala a wringer washer. Can't wait to see pics of it in action. Wow, a washer with no suspension system. Bolt it down well, man!

Oh Ross!

Congrads! What a perfect time to come up with some cool newbies for the wash-in. ( Hope it doesn't have a timer!!!) I'm taking the phone off the hook now. LOL!

I thought some very early and/or very BOL WP/KM machines had a float in the outer tub to turn off the water and start agitation...?

my bolt down is a timed fill

Post# 112895 , Reply# 25   3/2/2006 at 10:19 (6,601 days old) by designgeek ()

That's cool, never saw one like it before. What do the controls do, and how are they labeled? Seems to me this would have had a lift-off lid like a wringer; is that so, or was it designed to be used with an open tub?

I'm thinking it might be possible to bolt it to a round 1" thick plywood platform to provide enough surface area contact with the ground, that it wouldn't scoot around the floor. Does that seem reasonable or have I just woefully underestimated the forces it generates?

Any updates?

Ross, you could have used that lid, which you didn't buy witht he machine, (once cleaned up) as a tray or platter for snackies lol.
