So some of you may remember i bought the new 5.0 cubic feet capacity he top load washer about 8 months ago, i was concerned about rinsing and it started making noise from the suspension rod so i complained to ge and they sent me a brand new front load washer, well, looks like i am having issues with this one too!!!!! I will post some pics, but i noticed at the bottom of the machine in the outer tub what looks like evidence of i am guessing the inner tub rubbing against the outer tub, the plastic is sort of shaving off, any thoughts? I am at my wits end with ge products!!! I already had to return the dryer back to the store the day my partner and i got it! Was making a grinding noise! Loud! So far 2 brand new dryers and 2 brand new washers 3 out of 4 had defects???? Come on ge???? Any quality control? Anyways..... Thoughts? I will post pics below, i must also note in hi temp cycles like sanitize there is a slight noise as tge tub turns... Almost like a squeak like wet rubber against something almost like opening a door with a squeaky hinge.

Tub

I should note it is only on the bottom area of the tub and slightly up sides, top looks fine

Tub

When the tub makes the noise on hi temp cycles it is only when the tub is coming to a stop in between rotations, when moving it is fine

If It were me, I would have both units returned and change the brand to either LG or Maytag front.bb loading set. I've had both and am currently using three LGs a Duet Set by Whirlpool and had a GE front loading set. The washer had the same issies as yours. Even though they were both on a service plan, GE wanted to charge for the repairs. After I took it to the dump,I received a renewal on both contracts stating both of them would expire in July,2013. I was furious and called GE Customer service. They are .ow offering me a new front loading set but, after seeing yet another design flaw,I may call them and settle foran induction top electric convection range.

I've currently found two LG Tromm front loaders. Both have the built in heater and recirculating spray. One of them adds the interior drum light and steam. Both have the big 4.0 cu ft. drum. The one is.bb silver, the other is white. The silver one needed a new door lock assembly . I found it on line for $51 and repaired it myself. The white one was still under warranty and had a faulty seal that leaked ruining the spider puley and barings. Bob,the local authorized service tech.,will be back as soon as he gets over a bad cold to rebuild it. There were a few conflicts between us because even though LG Customer service verified the warranty coverage is still active, Bob was going to charge me for the barings, the tub seal and labor claiming LG was telling him a totally different story. I got in touch with LG calling the different number then the one on my unit for customer service and they too verified the full coverage. I had them contact Bob and had a conference call. Evidently,he has been double dipping and not only getting reimbursed for service and parts from LG but is also getting money from customers unaware of the free parts and labor the first year of ownership or that it's transferable if you sell it used or with the house. Bob wasn't mad or embarrassed but, just earlier today at our local Home Depot where this particular unit was purchased, his name came up from an angry customer who has a Hotpoint electric range they bought in November. The door lock is stuck in the lock lksition. The owner claims his wife locked it after setting it to bake at 450 to keep their two year old from getting burned opening the oven door not knowing it would stay locked until cooling down. He charged them $250 to replace the part and received payment from GE too. So,when he comes back,I'm confronting him about it because Home Depot employees hate his service due to him "double dipping".

GE Laundry Products

As an appliance professional, I have not seen a highly durable GE laundry appliance for sale here in the US since about 1994, yes many GE LA are great performers, but none have been better than average in terms of longevity and most much worse.

Best Front Load Washers, Speed Queen, followed by WP, MT, and maybe even Frigidaire. I would skip the LGs and Samsung's UNLESS you have an excellent local service agency that is enthusiastic about SERVICING [ not just selling ] these two brands. Even here in the nations capital most of our customers get disgusted after a few repairs on their LG and SS appliances and out they go.

Is this GE branded washer actually built by GE?

I was under the impression that only their new line up of right height washers and dryers and one model below that were made at Appliance Park. Do you know where this unit is sourced from. It is a nice looking washer, but if you are not happy, maybe it is time to start from scratch. Sorry for your troubles, best of luck to you, maybe you could get GE to give you their newer model washer and dryer built here in the US.

I have never had

a GE laundry product........I don't know why? It's just always worked out that I've had a Whirlpool or Kenmore. I've never had a Maytag appliance either.

Bummer to see this happening because it is a nice looking washer.........and those linked above that are made in the US here in KY look even better. I wonder if they are well made as opposed to the other models??

Ge

I would by a miele or a speed queen but the capacity is very small, this machine is 3.6, i am thinking about an lg, i had an lg for 3 years with no issues! Unfortunately i had to sell it in the move, im wondering if i should try to get ge to repair this one or sell it on craigslist? It's only 2-3 months old!!!!!

You'll never get anywhere near what you paid for it if you sell it. At only 3 months if it were me Id tell GE I wanted a full refund and use the money to buy something else.

How about E-Lux/Frigidare (Sorry, just can't spell it...)? Not heared anything bad bout them. Capacity is good, lots of options, high spin speed, heater and warm rinses avaible!

I would return both for a full refund, no way I'd put up with all these troubles.

Mike, this model appears to be one that is still sourced from Little Swan/Midea in China.  Built by Little Swan to spec, GE has been sourcing them since they moved away from the Electrolux/Frigidaire models.

The U.S. built machines are the taller, built-in riser models.  Assembled in KY with parts sourced globally.

It has 4.0 cubic ft, has turbowash and atomizing rinse so instead of doing 2 rinses it sprays water while it is spinning (spinspray) but the one deep fill rinse uses lots of water!!!! It fills up to the door boot!! When washing, the two side spray jets stay on during the entire wash!!! I love this machine!!! I am so happy with it!!! It's like a breath of fresh air!!!

Congratulations. Does sound like it will saturate clothes and that's what's needed to get wash clean.

Congrats! You went from the brand with the poorest reliability score to the brand with the highest, at least according to Consumer Reports.

I've steered a number of friends to LG and they are all very happy with their machines.

Rinse nozzle

This is the nozzle for the atomizing rinse, it's a super fine mist

Recirc

Recirculation spray nozzle, there is two of them, one on each side of the tub that spray inwards. Very effective.

Recirculation

At the begining of the normal wash cycle just after the tub fills a bit it spins at a low speed while the jets are on, then it stops fills some more and tumbles with the jets on, the jets were on during the entire wash and rinse cycle.

I've always loved

mark_wpduet's profile picture
the way the LG machines look... I also LOVE the fact that it has a deep rinse. I'm surprised because I didn't think that was allowed with modern front load washers.

but I'm so scared of that brand, not because of reliability......but because if something were to go wrong, how long will you have to be waiting for it to be fixed because of parts having to be ordered or back ordered parts, etc. It seems like I remember a lady on a forum saying it took 1.5 months to finally get her LG machine fixed. She had to go to the laundromat for six weeks. I'd die!

That being said, it looks like a super cool machine and hope you have no problems with it :)

If you don't already, plug it into a working surge protector

The first year I had my Duet, the control board went. After it was replaced I've had mine plugged into a surge protector and 9 years later it still works. Not sure if it's just luck or the surge protector is helping.

Mark:

Good advice.  I was told the day I purchased my Maytag pair, "Go buy a good surge protector, you won't regret the investment."

Almost five years later, nary a problem.  Luck, or good protection?  Don't know, still good advice with electronic laden appliances.
