Ok, I *have* watched some of the wonderful videos of the Speed queen washers. I just want to be sure what I am hearing from my new machine is normal. There is a slight squeaking noise (continual) during agitation? It seems to be working fine.

By the way-- I already LOOOOOOVE this washer. It gets things very clean!
Thanks!

My Speed Queen top loader did the same thing but it eventually went away.

Might be the suspension springs

Mine too. But in time it went away and all I hear now is the slosh of water moving through the clothes!

Suspension spring squeaks

Okay, good to know! My machine was bought in October and does the same thing. I'm glad to know it isn't something due to operator error....

While we're on this topic, does the tub sometimes lean forward during agitation? My machine does this but then returns to the normal position during the spin portions of the cycle.

I think there was a thread some time ago about the forward leaning tubs.  As I recall, it's normal.

Tub Leaning

While the tub leaning forward issue seems to be accepted as normal behavior, I have witnessed machines the do not exhibit this behavior. I don't have any idea why this would happen on one machine and not all of them. Perhaps others may comment.

No leaning on mine

However I made sure it was level front-back side-side. In fact, I had to do it myself after the appliance delivery guys went their way.

Mine occasionally makes a sound reminiscent of throwing a handful of small ball bearings into a garbage disposer during slow-speed agitation for about 15 seconds...then it vanishes.

Frigilux:

I get that same noise on the slow speed too. I couldn't distinguish if it was a button(s) hitting the tub wall and echoing. I think it makes more sense that it was from the transmission.

I also noticed that when I use a hot water wash (130 at the tap) I will sometimes get a buzzing sound during the spin drain. Overall the machine is super quiet to the point I don't even know it's running when I'm in the family room next to the laundry room.

I bought my mother the same Speed Queen washer. The one that I bought for her the tub is stable but mine the tub leans forward when it starts to wash and makes some grinding noise.I was told that it was the springs but my washer is just out of warranty I have been trying to get in touch with Speed Queen not had any luck. I still love my washer.I also noticed that there is a small dent in the front of the washer from the inside out.

Forward tub leaning during agitation is entirely normal and expected. Read the troubleshooting chart toward the back of your owner's manual. The grinding sound is likely unrelated.

I see it on half the models. During the wash the tub will lean into the front Styrofoam pad and will some times squeak as a result. I have no idea why but I see it on other machines also. I would guess that's where your cabinet dent came from. Im guessing perhaps the back counterweight isn't even, motors might be heavier between makes/ stretched out springs? No idea but IMO I cant see why the machine would need to lean, even for heavily loads.

My current model leans forward on a tub full of water. Its been like that since the first load. So far no issues from that but it makes me wonder why.

"I cant see why the machine would need to lean, even for heavily loads."

It's been asked about and answered more than once in discussions here. Something to do with motor torque. The heavier the load, the more it will lean.

Again I'll direct people to SQ's owner's manual. At least on our 2006 model, the lean is mentioned as not a problem in the troubleshooting section.

Put your mind at ease....

If your so inclined just remove the front of the washer and see how simple the design is of the speed queen top load washer. There isn't much to go wrong. It is very much an electro-mechanical product, with a real all metal transmission. Noises are going to be common and will vary with load size.

Even my 1986 Imperial 70 made different noises from time to time and that tub would lean somewhat on heavy loads.
