Why does it seem most guys in here prefer the KD-17/18 model dishwashers compared to the KDS/21 like I have?

Some folks in here even like the KD 16 with only one wash-arm in it which I would not know how to load.

I have never used or seen a KD-17/18 are they more powerful than the my KDS-21.I know they have the same

Hobart 1/2 H.P. Motor in it but the pump system is different there is no grinder in it but maybe they did not need them

really.

I grew up with a Maytag Reverse Rack a 85/86 model and it did not have a grinder in it but it washed like hell also

the loudest dishwasher I think I have ever used.

It seems that folks in here prefer the 1970s Kitchenaid KD17/18 or anything and I was have always wondered why

do those older ones clean better than my KDS-21?

One wash arm..

The 17 to my mind is better, some say they dont do as well in the upper rack, but I never had that problem, think of it like this, hook up one hose to a water faucet, test the pressure, then hook up two hoses....the pressure drops doesent it, same with a dishwasher, the single are has a much stronger spray than a two arm machine, so it has to clean better and faster..

The 17s and 18s are two entirely different series and the pump was redesigned to give adequate cleaning pressure in the 18s. The nice thing about the 17s and 18s is that they gave adequate rinsing as opposed to the 21 & newer machines

I'd go for the 21

Quite simply the racking and upper rack wash performance are much superior. Also the pump and motor are much more robust and far quieter. It should also be noted that the KUDS-21 heats the wash water to a certain 140f and uses much less water.

Hello

Another suggestion is to go with the KDS-20C. It would heat the water to 150F on the first fill and gives 2 rines after the main wash when using any of the Full Cycles choices: Sani Cycle (heats the final rinse water to 165F Soak & Scrub and Low Energy (Daily use) and it also has a heat dry or Energy Saver Day button whcih turns off the heating elememnt to the dry cycle only.

After the main wash, it would go into a purge followed by 2 rinses and dry. It would heat up the water on any cycle.

It uses less water then the 21 Series according to the service manuals I have. It also has 1/2 Horsepower motor by Hobart and also has a full wash arm under the top rack with Chinaguard.
