I wonder if that's a replacement door.  I thought all Maytags of this vintage had the big door handles instead of the knob & magnet arrangement.  Maybe Maytag made this improvement prior to launching the new center dial design later in the '60s.

Maytag door

I picked up this same model dryer a year ago (model 67C). This is the original door, although it has a friction catch on the inside instead of a magnet.

When I purchased the dryer, it was determined to have been a 1958 model, not the 1960's. I guess it is possible that Maytag continued it into the 1960's.

"not the 1960's".......

hippiedoll's profile picture
i was just taking a guess at it cuz i'm not to hip to the older maytags. heck, i'm not very familiar with any brand of washers or dryers. but what i do know about maytag is that the center dials with the blue "aqua" paneling along the bottom of the control panel, i think they came out in 1966-1974 (i think?) and the ones with the gold "sunglow" paneling along the bottom of the control panel, i think they came out in 1975-1980 (maybe???).

so, i don't know anything about the older maytags. and believe it or not, but i was going to say 1950's, but i thought, "jeesh, it looks kinda big & i don't know if the 1950's maytags were so big looking??? so my guess was just a simple "stab in dark" when i said 1960's?
sorry.....
:o/

but good eye there easy!!! that was a good catch & correction you made there. and being that you have one like this already, you would definitely know more than me!!!

:o)

i hope somebody in this group gets this dryer, cuz i think that is a good price for it! no???

Lots of Maytag Highlander History

Christina,

Type in "Maytag Highlander Dryer" in the search box at the top of the forum. The first entry should be the history of the sale and acquisition of my dryer with lots of photos.

Checkout all the other Highlander washers and dryers that pop up- lots of interesting reading.

Have fun, David

thanks david.

i will have to check that out when i have more time. but how interesting the sale of the dryer you got & you getting your dryer. i look forward to checking it out!!!

thanks again david.

by the way, how is your maytag dryer doing??? would that style of dryer still be considered a "halo of heat"??? i remember someone posting an old ad with a vintage looking dryer from about the same era as this (if i'm remembering correctly?) and it was an illustration/cartoon type drawing illustrating the "halo of heat" around the door of the dryer.

The door knob doesn't look right. I don't think it's the original door knob.

dryer knob

It is the right knob. See reply #7 above. You will see this same knob on other maytag highlander dryers.

Chris does stern really well! ;)

My mom had one of these dryers; it was already in place when they bought a new house in '74. She hated it, because of the lint filter at the rear of the drum (Mom doesn't DO lint filters, if you know what I mean) and because it was gas with a standing pilot, not the greatest idea in Georgia.

What gets me is, for all her staggeringly low opinion of it, she replaced it and the Maytag washer with a stacked Kenmore unit, also gas. Biggest POS ever.
