They finally closed this place 2 days ago.

The sign has damage but is still cool.

I doubt anyone would care if someone pulled up and wrenched it on out of there.

Just an F.Y.I.

Well, it was smashed a few weeks ago.

Just the frame and bulbs are left and some plastic shards on the ground.
Kids i'm betting.

So that's that.

Well that place is in da hood'. In that area activities such as that are common. Just look at the photos of the area. It tells the whole story.

In that area there are a few nice subdivisions holding on, but this place is right down the street from Westbury High School. And that place is a story unto itself.

Bendix Laundry

I wonder if that used to be a Bendix sunshine center. There used to be one the next town over from me and it was beautiful.

How did someone break the sign on the roof of the building-I sort of thought the sign was damaged by a renovation or demolition crew. The vandals would have to have good throwing arms or weapons to break the sign on the roof of the building.

In that part of town it was most likely gunfire that took the sign out. Shootings happen all the time over there.

It's NOT a bad part of town at all. It looks bad there at the old Centerette but it's a good area.

The sign is maybe 15 feet up there.
Somebody threw a rock or something and smashed it.
I was hoping some one would grab it and save it.
15 years ago i would have.
Oh well.

But perhaps with something like that Bendix sign might have been best to treat it like a rare artifact; that is not draw attention to the things existence.

That the thing stood relatively unmolested for so long perhaps pointed to no one bothering because it just wasn't on their radar.

Well, i'm pretty sure the reason it just happened now is that the place finally closed.
There was always somebody there before doing their laundry and the owner was around all the time.
It's deserted now so it got tagged.
There are some young kids riding their skateboards around there all the time.
I know when i was 12 i was a little bastard.

Guess we can debate how the sign got damaged-too bad someone couldn't save it or the former property owner could have offered it to someone that would want it.If the place was being renovated or demolished-the renovators-demolishing contactors could have tried to sell the sign on EBay or something.Better that than getting destroyed.I like to do shooting target practice--but not in town!Illegal anyway!-and of course DANGEROUS!!But tell those criminal clowns that.
