Ok I told this guy I wanted his Philco Bendix Duomatic its a 1957 model and now he wants to put it on ebay. What should I offer him for it? I have no clue what they are worth. It is a gas model and in good shape he says. Is about $400 fair or too much.

Thanks for any help!

Someone was trying to sell an Bendix on eBay for $400, or some such dear amount several weeks ago.IIRC the unit did not sell both times it was listed.

There is no rhyme or reason to prices on eBay these days for vintage appliances. However will say with large heavy things such as a bolt down Bendix takers can be very few. Part of this is the fact shipping is very dear, which leads to only a local market for interest.

If you REALLY want the unit, offer the man a decent amount near or even at his price. If not wait until it is on eBay and see what it goes for there. You may be able to win it for less than $400 if the seller does not use a reserve price listing. You verus other potential bidders have the advantage of seeing the unit in person and know the true condition.

Some sellers of vintage appliances are better not bothered with. They've been watching too many episodes of "Antique Roadshow" IMHO and suddendly vision early retirement with whatever they've found lying about spare.

It's worth whatever you are willing to pay. Better to low ball and see where you end up.

utjj99...he knows you want it and still wants to put it on Ebay..hummm..I have to agree with Laundress and Peter on this. Now to add my two cents..he sounds like a real s (not nice person)..a point to add to him is that once he puts it on Ebay he will have to pay the Ebay/Paypal fee and then if the person is out of state, assist with shipping or hold it until they can pick it up...
